From the Queen's Desk
We have wishes!
Thousands of them!
This is one of my favorite times of the year; when we get to see what the children we serve really want this holiday season. I haven't seen many requests for Bratz Dolls yet, but Monster High Dolls are definitely trending. Barbie Dolls and Lego sets are as popular as ever, and if you see a pink scooter...please pick one up!
Scooters with helmets are at the top of this year's list of most frequently requested gifts. Check out the complete list here. Are you a bargain hunter? Take the list with you, and grab a couple of the top items on sale!
Do you have any children in your life that could use a charitable infusion? Let's get them excited about helping other children for this holiday. Start the conversation about what being "underprivileged" means, point out a couple of things they may have that other children may not. Choose wish tags for the same age and gender as your child. Let them shop with you to help choose the perfect gift. Then, if possible, take your children to do volunteer work.
It's not a surprise that children need our help this year more than ever. Stanford just published a study that reports 18.7% of the people in Santa Clara County are living below the poverty line. That's one out of every 5 kids! As sad as this is, I believe we can turn it around and have the 4 kids who are doing o.k. help the one who isn't.
Don't you think there will be fewer children who need help if we work together and teach our children to help others?
I do, and I'm counting on it.
With love,
Jennifer

You can help fulfill wishes for local children in need when you lead a drive with your family, company, school, neighborhood, or any group or team that wants to contribute, no matter how big or small!
More than 200 organizations have already signed up to lead a drive this year including the San Jose Junior Sharks, Rockin' Jokers Square Dance Club, and PriceWaterhouseCoopers. But so far, these 200 groups will only be able to provide gifts for 20% of the children we've promised gifts to.
We need your help! Become an Elf and visit our website for information and tips on leading a drive for your group.
Register today for wish cards and we'll send them to you in early November. Don't have time to shop? Request a Virtual Giving Tree when signing up, and we'll take care of it for you! Please share this information with your friends who can also lead a drive. Every wish fulfilled delivers hope to another child!

The Elves are searching, once again, for space to host our 24th Annual Holiday Wish Drive! We need at least 100,000 square feet in the Silicon Valley area from approximately mid-November through the first week of January. Do you have any leads you can send us? We aren't afraid to show how much this means to us: remember this?
Referrals and leads on property can be sent to:

Calling all Elves...it's that time of year again!
The Queen and her Elves are busy preparing for the 2013 Holiday Wish Drive, and we need the help of our dedicated volunteers to ensure its success. We have weekday volunteer opportunities starting now through November in the office during business hours, and we will be hosting a volunteer event on Saturday, November 2nd. Please submit a volunteer inquiry here or contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Shannon if you are interested in joining us!

We know that our generous supporters can't wait for the December warehouse volunteer registration to open up on November 6th. But did you know, groups that are registered to lead a drive get a two week priority window to sign up? Shifts fill up FAST, so if you really want to get your group a spot, consider signing up to lead a drive and get priority registration beginning October 15th.
Contact Dawn, our Host Coordinator, for more details.

Who doesn't like getting birthday gifts?! Angel Elf Emily will be celebrating her 40th birthday next month and is hoping for a lot of gifts - but not for herself!

Having decided that she already has too much "stuff", Emily is encouraging friends and family that would like to celebrate with her to buy a gift for a child through the Family Giving Tree. With both Wish Cards for local family and friends to choose from, and a Virtual Giving Tree for loved ones from across the country to access, everyone can participate in making this a Happy Birthday for Emily and a Merry Christmas for some wonderful kids!
Do you have any special events coming up? Are you hosting a birthday, anniversary, or a family Thanksgiving? Consider making FGT a part of your celebrations and help spread the joy! Contact Dawn, our Host Coordinator for more information now!
