Prepared for Success!
With your help, we did it!
More than 26,500 children started school this year with the tools they need to succeed in school, and help break the cycle of poverty.
Children across the Greater Bay Area received brand new backpacks filled with much-needed supplies such as pencils, notebooks, markers, and calculators!
More than 400 companies and organizations led Back to School Drives, and we saw nearly 1,000 volunteers help us sort, stuff and distribute backpacks!
We are so proud to work with generous individuals to help unlock opportunities for local, low-income children. Look at the pictures we've received here!

"Thank You" to our valued sponsors

Thanks to the many individual, corporate and foundation donors, we are able to equip more students with the supplies they need to begin the school year primed for success. Particularly, we want to thank Presenting Sponsor, Texas Instruments, and our major sponsors SanDisk, and Samsung. View our full list of generous 2013 Back to School Drive Sponsors.

What do you get when you mix engineers and school supplies?
Our Backpack Builds, of course!
After a pilot program last year, Family Giving Tree beta-tested a bigger backpack build program, bringing the backpack sorting experience to the offices of several corporate partners. The goal is to make it easier for employees to volunteer through an on-campus volunteer experience that makes a big investment in the future of our most vulnerable children.
Partnering with each corporation, we work to tailor the Backpack Build to your corporate philanthropy goals and culture. With so many different companies participating, we saw a multitude of backpack stuffing techniques. At SanDisk, we saw backpacks for all four grade levels being assembled at the same time! It was a whirlwind record breaker: 32 minutes for 1,000 backpacks total. For Cisco, stuffing became a fun team competition, particularly when a number of pencil pouches went mysteriously missing. Luckily, Quality Control found them and all was well again after a good laugh! Samsung worked together in shifts to stuff 1,600 backpacks, all while listening to classic rock songs on Pandora Radio.
Thanks to all the participating corporate partners and employees for their generous support and participation in helping end the cycle of poverty for so many Bay Area children!
