For the Elves, February is a time to regroup, schedule our dentist appointments and set our goals for the coming year. For me personally, I also start volunteering for things at my children's school, chaperoning field trips and doing a much better job of homework review!
While spending more time in the classroom, I've come to notice that many of my children's classmates are really on their own for the whole year. They have parents who don't know English well enough to help with homework, can't take time to chaperone a field trip or afford school supplies. It's those kids and their families that I will be thinking about over the next couple of months.
Are there ways we could improve our Back to School Drive for them? I welcome ideas! Maybe together we will come up with another winner like adding toothbrushes to the holiday gifts. That one was brilliant! No, it wasn't my idea. My dental hygienist, Carole, suggested it. She has been cleaning my teeth for nearly 25 years, and her thoughts on children from low-income households needing dental care were well received. As a result, we began adding toothbrushes to each gift; a service we know makes a difference. Email me with your thoughts: QueenElf@FamilyGivingTree.org
As the Elves rest and recoup our energy, please send us good thoughts as we will be sending them out to all our wonderful supporters who have worked with us to help over one million children in the Bay Area.
With love,
Jenn

double or triple your gift!
Many thanks to our generous end of year donors, who stepped up to take advantage of the Sobrato Family Foundation Challenge Grant. Thanks to you we have exceeded the challenge! Each donation will be matched by the foundation, dollar for dollar.
Did you know?
Many companies will double, or even triple, charitable contributions made by their employees, resulting in more than $100,000 in additional resources for the Family Giving Tree! If you made a financial gift to our Holiday Wish Drive, please remember to submit a request for a company match. Some companies even offer matching for volunteer hours. If you are unsure about your company's policies, please check with your HR department.
Submitting a request is an easy way to double or triple the impact of your gift! Is your company on the list? This is a list of companies who have provided matching gifts to us in the past.

is it too early to sign up?

Evergreen Brownie Troop #60754.
|
Of course not!
Evergreen Brownie Troop #60754 is already coordinating their Back to School Drive.
This troop of 12 third grade girls, whose theme this year is "It's Your World-Change It!", know how important it is to succeed in school and want to help provide school supplies for kids who don't have the tools they need. Because they don't meet during the summer, the girls will be collecting and delivering their school supplies to our office in April, where we will store the materials until August.
If your social club, school, or scout troop would like to donate backpacks filled with school supplies, but is unable to hold a drive this summer, please email Dawn for details! Storage space is limited, but we are always open to working with groups looking to organize early.
Register your group to lead a drive today and start collecting school supplies to help low income Bay Area children start the school year with the tools they need to succeed!

Got gifts?
Do you or your organization have gifts that were left behind after the Holiday Wish Drive? Did someone forget to check the storage closet or under a desk?
Have no fear! Family Giving Tree Elves are still accepting those late gifts and will make sure they are distributed. We work with agencies that have their distribution parties after the holidays, and serve low-income children and families all year. So, if you happen to have gifts that were left behind, it is not too late to deliver to our office in Milpitas.
Contact our Agency Coordinator, Elf Celeste, and she will make sure your gifts find a loving home!
