To some, Labor Day Weekend signifies the END of Summer.  Those of us who live on Cape year round know that this is not always true - and the last few days have been a great example!  While we love the adventure and excitement of the summer months and all our tourist/visitors, we also know that these are the hard earned glory days - less traffic - warm breezes - quiet beaches.

As usual we have a lot going on so please browse our newsletter for new beers - new jobs and plenty of upcoming events!

Cheers!

Beers.. Beers and More NEW Beers...
Fall begins our time to play!  We have more tank space and more time to play...so we do.
These first two weeks of September will bring us THREE beers!  One NEW one..and two we all love!

Harvest Ale : Released 9/2

Cape Cod Harvest Ale is a smooth, straw-colored German style ale, similar to an Octoberfest. With a rich German malt aroma, this specialty beer was brewed using a blend of 6 malts including German Munich, Vienna and Cara Pils, and just enough noble hop character to provide a balanced finish.

OG: 11.9°P (1.048SG)   ABV: 5%   IBUs: 18
Malts: German - 6 varieties  Hops: Noble - 3 varieties
Food Pairing: Sausage, Poultry, Pork, Mexican

Dunkel Weizen : Released 9/8

A darker style wheat beer with unique a banana bread character. Similar to a Hefeweizen, these southern Germany wheat beers are brewed as darker versions (Dunkel means "dark") with deliciously complex malts and a low balancing bitterness. The color is a cloudy (unfiltered) medium brown with the usual clove and fruity (banana) character, which comes from the yeast.

OG: 13.4 °P (1.054SG)  ABV: 5.4%   IBUs: 25
Malts: German & English - 6 varieties    Hops: Domestic - 1 variety

Food Pairing: Roasted Meats, German, Mexican

Kurt's Farmhouse Saison : Friday 9/12

When Brewmaster Todd Marcus was approached by Ted Lowrie, President of the Board of Trustees of the Sturgis Library, to somehow participate in the upcoming Columbus Day weekend Vonnegut Celebration, the idea of special beer quickly came to mind.  Together with the brew crew and the library staff, brainstorming began on a name and beer style.  This of course is never as easy as it sounds, and dozens of names were suggested.  Given that Vonnegut was captured during the Battle of the Bulge in the Wallonia region of Belgium where Saisons are most famous, the style seemed perfectly appropriate.  His capture led to the writing of one of his most famous works: Slaughterhouse-Five.  This, combined with a candid photo provided by Vonnegut's daughter showing Kurt relaxing in front of a barn house door on Scudders Lane, led to a moment of clarity and Kurt's Farmhouse Saison was born.

Saisons are a complex style of beer traditionally brewed in the winter and stored for the farm hands to drink over the summer and harvest months.  They tend to be fruity or spicy but not sweet and have a have a slight earthy yeast tone to them.   Our interpretation of this famous style is dry and tart with some fruity spicy overtones and pronounced lemon characteristics that comes from the French Aramis Hops
.
OG: 12.2 °P (1.049SG)  ABV: 5.5%   IBUs: 18
Malts: German Pilsner, English Wheat and German Vienna   Hops: Domestic - French Aramis - 2 additions

Food Pairing: The complex blend of yeasty fruit and spice complements a wide range of dishes from spicy Asian and Middle-Eastern to grilled red meat.
