Fibromyalgia Awareness Day is May 12th 

Fibromyalgia causes chronic widespread pain and stiffness in the muscles and joints.  Many also suffer from fatigue, lack of sleep, tension headaches irritable bowel symptoms and struggle with anxiety and depression.  
                
This syndrome, which is most common in women, can be difficult to diagnose and can interfere with ones ability to function at home or at work.  Our drug-free approach, using natural therapies that support the body's ability to heal itself has been proven beneficial to must sufferers.  

 

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle has been proven beneficial to most sufferers.  

  • Nutritional considerations:  Eating healthy foods and reduce toxic habits such as caffeine, tobacco, processed sugar and alcohol.
  • Mental outlook:  Reducing stress and getting enough sleep will help with common symptoms often accompanied by fibromyalgia such as depression, anxiety, fatigue and memory & mood issues. 
  • Exercise:  Sufferers often do not want to exercise because of fatigue and pain.  However, if they do so, the prognosis is greatly improved. 
Nutritional habits
Strawberries & Cream
From NMR's kitchen to yours.

  Strawberries & Cream

 
4 oz. cream cheese, softened             1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 Tbs. sugar                                       1 cup heavy cream
Fresh strawberries
 
Combine the cream cheese, sugar & vanilla extract in a mixing bowl.  Mix on medium speed until smooth.  Once smooth, while still mixing, slowly pour in the heavy cream.  Continue to mix until the cream can hold a stiff peak.
 
Strawberries are high in Vitamin C and provide an excellent source of Vitamin K, folic acid, potassium and disease fighting phytochemicals. They also contain antioxidants which fight free radicals that can damage cells and may contribute to the formation of may kinds of cancer.

Reconditioning exercises

  

The health benefits of exercise are endless!  It is an excellent stress reliever, boosts your metabolism, lowers your risk of certain disease, improves your sleep quality, body aesthetics and energy.   People suffering from fibromyalgia have found that exercise improves their fitness and helps to reduce pain and fatigue.  

HamstringStretch

Reduce the chance of injury by stretching for a few minutes before each workout. Stretching after your workout will decrease stiffness and soreness in the muscles.  Before walking, doing a hamstring stretch is important to lengthen the muscle for full mobility of your spine, hip and knee.

Hamstring Stretch:
  • have full extension of the leg
  • foot is flexed
  • back is straight
  • lean forward reaching for the foot, shin, knee or however far you are able to reach
  • hold for 30 seconds
  • repeat 2 times.
