July 2016 Newsletter

Greetings!

While we're not experiencing the best summer weather, our recent trip around the London Ring fell neatly into a dry weather window and proved to be a lot of fun. Thanks to everybody who joined us on the trip and helped us up the Hanwell Flight on Friday afternoon. Sadly, the weather didn't hold for Deborah's journey down the Flight on Monday morning, but such is life.

The good news is that the weather is looking favourable for Richmond Yacht Club's cream tea tomorrow, and I understand that some BCC members will be joining them.  Other events this month include the White Swan Raft Race (23rd July), and a possible trip down to the Medway at the end of the month, although this is still in the planning stages. I will send out further details as and when they become available.

Best wishes

Coming Up

Saturday 2nd July - Cream Teas at RYC
BCC members are invited to join Richmond Yacht Club for their annual Cream Tea afternoon between 2pm and 4:30pm. HW Brentford is at 13:52 so it works well for anybody wanting to cruise up to Richmond and back for tea and scones. Alternatively, it's an easy journey from Brentford on the 267 bus.

Saturday 23rd July - The White Swan Raft Race

Show your support for Steve, our Vice Commodore, and his team as they compete in this year's White Swan raft race from midday at the White Swan, Twickenham Riverside.

Wednesday 27th July - The Medway and Beyond
We have a couple of boats who are considering a trip down to the Medway at the end of July. Any skippers or crew interested in joining this trip, please let me know.

The London Ring
Hebe III, C Sharp and narrowboat Henry entered Thames Lock at Brentford on Friday morning and, as planned, reached The Fox for a lunchtime pint to fortify us for the Hanwell Flight. With all three boats fitting in the lock at once and plenty of crew on hand,we were able to climb the flight with ease before heading to Willowtree Marina for the night.

We were away by 9:30am on Saturday, collecting crew along the way at Westbourne Grove and Regents Park, before a brief stop for lunch at Camden Town. Saturday afternoon took us through the Islington Tunnel and on to Mile End, where we found a pleasant overnight mooring next to Victoria Park.

Sunday saw another change of crew and early start, ensuring that we reached Limehouse in time to catch the tide to carry us back to Brentford. Overall, a fantastic trip with lots of laughs along the way.
