My first boat trip this season was not an unqualified success as we lost propulsion shortly after coming back through Teddington Lock. Fortunately we were rescued by a passing boat that towed us back to Richmond Yacht Club, where I left the boat until RCR could come and replace the propeller which had become disengaged from the prop shaft. While I doubt that any amount of preventitive maintenence would have prevented this incident, It does serve to remind me that there is never a dull moment when you are boating on the river.
While I think that most people try and keep their engines fairly well maintained, life jackets often get forgotten. Life jackets should be regularly inspected in line with the manufacturers recommended service regime. Typically this will advise that they be returned for factory inspection and gas canister change every 3 years.
