Greetings!

My first boat trip this season was not an unqualified success as we lost propulsion shortly after coming back through Teddington Lock. Fortunately we were rescued by a passing boat that towed us back to Richmond Yacht Club, where I left the boat until RCR could come and replace the propeller which had become disengaged from the prop shaft.  While I doubt that any amount of preventitive maintenence would have prevented this incident, It does serve to remind me that there is never a dull moment when you are boating on the river.

While I think that most people try and keep their engines fairly well maintained, life jackets often get forgotten. Life jackets should be regularly inspected in line with the manufacturers recommended service regime. Typically this will advise that they be returned for factory inspection and gas canister change every 3 years.

We have a couple of events coming up (see below), so please do come out and join us on the river.

Best wishes

Coming Up

Saturday 21st May  -  Afternoon cruise to Kingston.
Its impossible to know at this stage what the weather will do however HW is at 15.45 so we have the opportunity to be out all afternoon. If the weather is fine we could find a pleasant spot for a riverside BBQ, or drop the anchor and have a picnic taking in a pub or two along the way.  I will finalise details closer to the time when I have a clearer idea of how many boats and crew are likely to come along and send out another e mail nearer the time. In the meantime, if you would like to come along with your boat or as crew, please let me know.

Friday 17th June - Sunday 19th June - The London Ring
We are planning a trip around the London Ring between 17th and 19th June. Roughly, the plan will be to leave Brentford around 11.15am heading downriver through London to  get to Limehouse Basin for lunch.  After lunch we will head onto the Grand Union Canal  towards Islington for an overnight stay either outside the Bargehouse PH or one of the other nearby restaurants with with moorings outside. The next morning we will head through the 960 yard Islington tunnel, and then on through Camden to the Paddington Basin and then on past Regents Park  to overnight outside the Black Horse in Greenford. Finally on Sunday we will head back down the Hanwell flight to Brentford.

This is a great little trip which we haven't done since 2011 and so I hope we will get 3 or 4 boats on the trip. Anybody wishing to crew for the day is welcome to join us for -just let me know which day/days you would like to come. Skippers please let me know if you would like to join this trip.

Just Been

Sami Spice with visitors from RYC and TYC.
Although our friends at RYC and TYC didn't manage to come on their boats, they did arrive in time for a pint at the brewery Tap before our interclub curry. With representatives from RYC, TYC and BCC we were a party of 17. The ATYC have recently tasked a new committee member with getting clubs to do more together, so we are ahead of the game!
