February 2016 Newsletter
 Greetings!

The Brentford Cruising Club is a member of the Assn of Thames Yacht Clubs which was established in 1949 when, three Thames Cruiser Clubs joined forces to campaign for the abolition of individual lock charges by the Thames Conservancy. Thus the Association of Thames Motor Boat Clubs (ATMBC) was born under the Chairmanship of  J R "Nobby" Pearce. It was later to be renamed the Association of Thames Yacht Clubs (ATYC) and its central purpose is to"promote and to protect the interest of the private boat owner".

The ATYC holds its AGM on 21st March at the Thames Motor Yacht Club in Hampton. Its a good opportunity to find out about the issues currently surrounding the river and its management.  I hope to be able to attend and would be happy to take anybody else that is interested.

On 16th March, The Thames Tidal Navigators Club (the leisure arm of the PLA) hosts its annual Recreational Pre-Season Briefing
for leisure boaters commencing at 18.30 on board the Elizabethan at Tower Pier. I'm am not sure that I will be able to attend this event however if anybody else is interested please let me know and I will send you the link to pre-register.

Best wishes

Film Night At Richmond Yacht Club
A few of our members took advantage of RYC's kind invitation to their film night on 19th February.
This special screening of watery vintage films, presented by film archivist Louise Pankhurst, included some rare footage of the landscape of the capital. The film was preceded by RYC's famous pre film night supper which was greatly enjoyed by all. Our thanks to RYC for their generous hospitality.
