4th May 2015

I would like to start by extending a warm welcome to all of our new members who have joined in the last two or three months. I hope that you won't hesitate to join the upcoming cruises and continue to be part of the club for some time to come.

Following a successful curry evening with Twickenham Yacht Club, we we will be joined for lunch after our VTS trip by some Greenwich Yacht Club members and that some Richmond Yacht Club members will be joining us on 16th May at the White Swan. It is great that we are developing these relationships with other clubs as it increases the scope for us to cruise together and creates opportunities for all of our members to get involved in each others events and activities.

Best wishes

Andrew Kirkwood

Twickenham Yacht Club come to Brentford
We were delighted to welcome members of Twickenham Yacht Club's cruiser section to Brentford for what was supposed to be their first cruise of the season. In the end, events overcame the cruise, but a small contingent came anyway, meeting us for a pint at the Brewery Tap, before heading to Sami Spice for a delicious curry. It was great to catch up with the Twickenham crew, so much so that I forgot to take any photos until the end. Perhaps that explains the number of empty bottles on the table!

Coming Up

Saturday 9th May - Trip to the London VTS in Woolwich

Steve has managed to book us into the London VTS, the Port of London Authority's Vessel Traffic Services HQ, which monitors the movements of all vessels using the River Thames below Teddington. Access to the centre is by arrangement only as it not open to the general public, so this is a great chance to see the inner workings of the river's traffic control.

We now have 12 people booked for this event which is as many as we are able to take, however if you would like to come please let Steve know in case anybody drops out.

Saturday 16th May - Lunch at The White Swan, Twickenham.
The White Swan, Twickenham

HW is at 14.15 so we will plan to meet at the marina at 11.15am with a view to getting locked out at midday. We will be mooring on Richmond Yacht Club's pontoon and some of their members are planning to join us for lunch. After a pre-lunch pint,  the White Swan are putting on a BBQ for us ..burgers (beef, chicken or veggie) with chips and salad for 10 which keeps it simple. I can't guarantee that the sun will shine but this has all the makings of a great little trip. Skippers and crew, please let me know if you would like to come along.

Saturday/Sunday 12th/13th June - River Wey
The River Wey
We have been invited to join Twickenham Yacht Club on their cruise down the River Wey as far as Pyrford. The River Wey is operated by the National Trust and is a very beautiful and unspoilt waterway.  I hope that we will get two or three boats on the trip so if you would like to take your boat or join the trip as crew either on Saturday or Sunday, please let me know so we can start to make a plan.
