The Sunbury fireworks cruise last year was a disappointment. Although the weather held, and it was dry, the combination of wind and tide made mooring in the river difficult. Our anchors slipped again and again, leaving us in the wrong place, so having to repeat the process. Hebe III eventually rafted up against a large Broom with on board TV, giving us the benefit of the owners commentary on Tom Daley's Olympic dives.
This year we have the opportunity to join TYC's trip, which then goes on to Windsor to make a 4 day cruise. Good weather is not guaranteed, but good company will be assured!
10th/11th/12th August - Sunbury Fireworks then racing at Windsor
We will be departing from Twickenham Yacht Club at about 11.30am on Saturday August 10th and heading to Shepperton Marina for a bbq before the fireworks at the Sunbury that evening. We will overnight at Shepperton Marina and then head up to Windsor arriving in time for a leisurely evening meal. Evening racing at Windsor starts at 5.40pm-9pm on Monday so there will be plenty of time to take in the delights of Windsor. Some boats are planning to go further upriver, while some will be returning on Tuesday . Please let me know asap if you want to join this cruise as berths at Shepperton are likely to become scarce.Commodore@brentfordcruisingclub.co.uk16th August - Thames Barrier
The Ferbers (with possibly two or three other boats) are planning a cruise down to the Thames Barrier. If you would like to join them, please let them know. email@example.com
24th August - ATYC Regatta at West India Dock
The broad plan would be to rendezvous with boats from TYC and Richmond Yacht Club who are leaving at around 07:15hrs on Saturday 24th August. This will allow for a slow drift down on the tide to the lock entrance opposite the O2. The lock in time is 11:00 and a slow drift means we all stick together and arrive at the lock entrance bang on time. The return trip will leave at around 17.30 on Monday 25th. If you would like to join this cruise please let me know.
Late August/Early September
Harvey Bell and David Young are planning a trip down to St Katherine Docks. If you are interested in joining them, please contact Harvey. Harvey@bellgb.com 7th September - The Great River Race
Brentford Dock provides a great spot to watch the Great River Race as the race makes it way up the river. The race starts at the London Docklands at 11.40 and makes its way up to Ham and the fastest boats get there in just over 2 hours. Bring a picnic and join residents and berth holders for a fun day. 23rd September - London By Night
Setting off around 18.00hrs, we will cruise through London as lights come on, arriving in Limehouse around 21.00hrs in time for a beer and a curry. So far we have six boats booked to come on this trip, so it promises to be a great cruise. If you would like to join this cruise as skipper or crew, please let me know. Brentford Dock have decided bring in another lock keeper to join Steve and Andy. I understand that Hew has has completed a days training with Steve and will be starting to help out in the next few days.
Meanwhile Jan Ferber continues to work on the berth holders club room. The electrics have now been done and so progress is being made.
