Reflections on Hot Biofuel Issues:
What Does The Latest Court Ruling Mean For
E15 and Consumers? 
 

Give consumers choice at the gas pump!  That's what the June 24th decision by the U.S. Supreme Court means as it let stand an August 2012 ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals.  Here's the basis for my observation about how and why these legal issues translate into good news for consumers.

In brief, the case before the U.S. Court of Appeals was about standing.  Put another way, the issue in the Grocery Manufacturers Association vs Environmental Protection Agency case was whether the parties representing the food, petroleum and engine manufacturers experienced some harm that the Court could fix.  The simple answer is this:  there was nothing for the Court to fix because the parties had no harm traceable to E15 (15% ethanol added to 85% gasoline - only 5% more ethanol than is now contained in regular gasoline)! Sign the Petition for E-15 in Minnesota! 

As part of the campaign to bring E15 to the marketplace so consumers can save money, keep energy dollars in Minnesota and help improve environmental quality, the Minnesota Bio-Fuels Association has unveiled a petition form for consumers to sign.  We invite you to review the short petition and express your support for E15 by signing the petition here: MBA E15 PETITION     

Member Networking

The Minnesota Bio-Fuels Association recently hosted a networking event for Producer, Vendor, and Supporting members of the organization. The event was held June 24th at Heartland Corn Products in Winthrop, MN. KSMQ's "Farm Connections" Episode 604 

MBA Executive Director Tim Rudnicki was recently featured in an episode of Farm Connections. KSMQ, a public television station in Austin, MN, produces the show with the purpose of exploring the world of agriculture in the region. The award winning Supermileage Team from Alden Conger High School was also showcased in the episode. The team designs and constructs extremely efficient high mileage vehicles that run on biofuels like ethanol and biodiesel. The episode may be viewed here on YouTube.  

Guardian Energy hosts National Agriculture in the Classroom Conference Tour  

On June 27th a group of over 30 educators from across the country visited Guardian Energy in Janesville, MN for a tour. Educators heard from CFO Dean Reder about the importance of ethanol and from Tom Hanson, VP of Operations .Check photos from the tour!      

Minnesota Producer Spotlight

WANTED: Potential E15 Retailers
Grant funding ($$$) is now available to help a limited number of retailers update their fuel dispensing systems so they can offer consumers choice at the pump by making E15 available!  If you are a fuel retailer and are interested in increasing your profitability with E-15 sales, please contact [email protected] for more details about the grant program. The transition to E15 sales can be made just a bit easier with the information MBA provides on the E-15 page or in the E-15 Retailer Handbook.
