The history of long term care is one of evolution; the formal service system grew and changed in response to shifts in the structure of the community, demographic trends and societal values.  But the most powerful force that that has defined the formal system of care is the way care is paid for and by whom.  In the broader context of the culture and social structure of the United States, ways the financing system has shaped and will continue to drive change in the structure of the formal system of long term care will be explored.

Palliative and End of Life Care Project: Community Report

This community report summarizes the findings of a survey conducted in the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier regions of New York State in the spring of 2015 by Elizabeth J. Bergman, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Gerontology and the following students enrolled in the Gerontology Senior Seminar course:  Rachel Mecalianos, Samantha Olewnik, Jasmine Spearman, Caroline Westbrook and Corinne White.

Congratulations to Aging Studies major, Mary Scouten!

Mary has received a summer internship with the Boston Center for Memory in Newton, MA where she will be working with the medical research and clinical team. The Boston Center for Memory is a multi-specialty clinical center that provides comprehensive diagnostic evaluations, treatment, and follow up care for people with Alzheimer's disease and other related dementias.
