Aging News and Notes
JANUARY 2016
RhodaMeador
From the Director

Dear Gerontology Institute Supporters and Friends,

I'm writing to let you know that I will be leaving my role as director of the Institute as of January, 2016.  I feel incredibly lucky to have had the opportunity to provide leadership for the many programs we deliver to learners here at Ithaca College and in our local community.  Our work to improve the lives of older people through education is deeply meaningful to me and it will be difficult to give up this work as my full-time focus.  I will very much miss having day-to-day interactions with our remarkable students, my amazing colleagues, faculty, and community partners.

The great news is that I will continue to be part of the Gerontology Institute in a new role as the part-time coordinator of the Finger Lakes Geriatric Education Center.

Thank you for all your support and I welcome an ongoing connection with each of you.

Best of luck in the New Year,
Rhoda Meador

The history of long term care is one of evolution; the formal service system grew and changed in response to shifts in the structure of the community, demographic trends and societal values.  But the most powerful force that that has defined the formal system of care is the way care is paid for and by whom.  In the broader context of the culture and social structure of the United States, ways the financing system has shaped and will continue to drive change in the structure of the formal system of long term care will be explored.
