Project ECHO Supports Geriatric Mental Health and Dementia Care in NY State
Rural geriatric patients in need of mental health or dementia care are most often cared for by a primary care physician. Now those physicians can receive information and support through Project ECHO GEMH at the University of Rochester Medical Center. ECHO GEMH's mission is to improve the care received by older adults through web-based videoconferencing. Through this technology, primary care providers are provided with case-based educational opportunities, decision support, and specialty geriatric mental health consultation services. The goal of the program is to train 175 Primary Care Physicians to better care for late life mental disorders and dementia.
Primary care providers at all levels that desire to participate are invited to attend. Continuing Medical Education credits are included for Project ECHO GEMH clinics.
