Professor, Dept. of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, Ithaca College This workshop will present the causes and psychosocial impact of hearing loss, as well as the most current diagnostic and remediation strategies used to combat hearing disorders in older people. Practical tips for interacting with people with hearing loss will be incorporated throughout the workshop. Life Review of Generative ContributionsMonday, Dec. 1, 2:00-4:30 p.m.Presenter: Myra Sabir, Ph.D., Asst. Professor, Dept. of Human Development, State University of NY-Binghamton Reminiscence about ways older adults have made significant contributions to society may be one of their most powerful developmental needs. Reminiscence work around generative stories can lead to late-life rebirth, revitalization, and mitigate the fear of death. This workshop will focus on ways to assist older adults in completing a life review of their generative contributions.

Learn about medication management to reduce falls; and effective assessment, triage, and intervention program design. Attendance at these workshops is free, but registration is required. A fee is charged to obtain CEUs.

ICGI Celebrates 15 Years of Ithaca College/Longview Partnership
 The partnership that Ithaca College has had with Longview, a nearby retirement community, has enriched the lives of many students and older people. Join us as we celebrate the partnership's 15th anniversary year on Wed., Oct. 29, from 3 to 5 p.m. in Clark Lounge in the Campus Center. Short remarks, displays of faculty projects and a chance to chat with faculty and students, and refreshments will all be part of our celebration.

Harvest Moon Dance Returns Nov. 7 at IC
 This annual intergenerational event, sponsored by the IC student organization AGES (Aging and Gerontology Education Society), will be held Friday, Nov. 7, 6:30-8:30 pm in Emerson Suites on the Ithaca College campus. All local older adults and their families are invited to join IC students for a night of live music, dancing, refreshments, and great conversation. No registration is necessary. Questions? Geriatric Education for Rural Health Professionals Conference Nov. 15-16
Sponsored by the Health Foundation for Western and Central New York (HFWCNY) and the Finger Lakes Geriatric Education Center at the University of Rochester, this conference features nationally-acclaimed speakers focused on geriatric care training for rural health care providers. High impact areas in geriatrics will be covered, including but not limited to, managing patients with multiple chronic conditions, transitions of care, polypharmacy, palliative care, quality improvement, and the impact of health care reform on medical practices. This conference is offered free of charge to practicing physicians, nurses, and nurse practitioners from rural areas. CME credits for physicians will be offered. Nurses can submit certification to the ANCC for credit. Space is limited. Overnight hotel accommodations at La Tourelle will be provided and travel expenses will be reimbursed by HFWCNY. Website, Blog Available on Elder Justice
The U.S. Department of Justice has launched Elder Justice, a website to help prevent elder abuse and financial exploitation. The website is a resource for professionals in the field of elder abuse prevention, as well as for victims of elder abuse and their families.
And, the NYC Elder Abuse Center is celebrating the two-year anniversary of its Elder Justice Dispatch Blog, which features posts on case studies, elder justice news items, resources, and more. Thank you to Zoe Eisenberg, Aging Studies '17, for telling us about this blog; Zoe was awarded and completed a competitive internship with the NYC center last summer.

Aging in Place or Relocation? Mary Ann Erickson, Chair of the Department of Aging Studies, Co-Authors Paper
 Associate Professor Mary Ann Erickson is one of four authors of an article published online in September 2014 in the Journal of Housing for the Elderly. "Aging in Place or Relocation? Plans of Community Dwelling Older Adults" describes the results of a study that examined the anticipated living arrangements of 416 community-dwelling older adults using data from the first two data collections of the Pathways to Life Quality Study. John Krout, professor emeritus and the first director of the Ithaca College Gerontology Institute, is also an author. Read more...
