Doctors' Day at VHC
DD day

Doctors' Day marks the date (March 30, 1842) that Crawford W. Long, M.D., administered the first ether anesthetic on a patient for surgery. The first Doctors' Day observance was March 30, 1933 in Winder, Georgia. Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, decided to set aside a day to honor physicians. This first observance included mailing greeting cards to doctors and placing red carnations on graves of deceased doctors. In 1991, Congress designated March 30, as "National Doctors Day", which celebrates and recognizes the contributions of doctors to individual lives and the community.

With more than 1,300 physicians practicing at the Hospital and committed to healthcare excellence, Virginia Hospital Center medical staff provides high quality, cutting-edge care for thousands of patients, 365 days-a-year. In celebration of 2013 National Doctors' Day (Saturday, March 30), let a special doctor know how much you appreciate his or her commitment to your good health by making a tax-deductible donation in his or her honor to support the Virginia Hospital Center Foundation Click here.

Virginia Hospital Center Physician Group

In 2004, Virginia Hospital Center launched the VHC Physician Group with a sub-specialty practice in Urogynecology.  Over the past nine years, that physician network has grown to over 90 doctors comprised of multiple primary care groups, surgical practices, and sub-specialty groups. Virginia Hospital Center now has five primary practices spanning across Northern Virginia, including Arlington, Alexandria, Falls Church, McLean, Springfield/Burke, and more practices are being added. Primary care is essential for preventative healthcare and health maintenance. Your primary care doctor will educate and monitor changes in your health status,  referring you to the right specialists and sub-specialists for your medical needs.

When you choose a physician who is a member of the VHC Physician Group, your medical care is connected to one of America's Top 100 hospitals.  Virginia Hospital Center has been selected as a 2013 Top 100 Hospital by Truven Health Analytics. Our medical staff's commitment to excellence is also evident in our patient satisfaction ratings. Virginia Hospital Center ranked number one (#1) in the Commonwealth of Virginia for overall patient satisfaction, as rated by the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS).
