IMPACT informs the Tulane University community about academic engagement options that fulfill the public service graduation requirement. This forum will provide an overview of programs offered through the Center for Public Service, announce information sessions, application requirements and deadlines, and post ongoing internship opportunities. It will also highlight student interns, community partner agencies, study-abroad programs, and service-learning courses. Read on and engage!

Featured Internship

 Internships in Social Innovation, Social Entrepreneurship, and Business Start-Up with Crescent City Connections

  

Crescent City Connections (CCC), www.crescentcityconnections.org , is a start-up social enterprise connecting nonprofits with businesses via customized volunteer -events.  Interning with CCC allows for a lot of great hands on, leadership and creative experiences and opportunities. CCC is looking for dedicated interns that could have a possible long-term interest and leadership role in the organization.

 

Business Partnership Internship:

Intern will be responsible for helping building partnerships with a variety of businesses in the New Orleans area. This includes doing research, building out contact information, talking with potential partners, and partnership-building. Furthermore, the intern will work closely with the Director of Client Services to create various service packages for client groups from the business partnerships. Need people interested in New Orleans, business start-ups, social enterprise, and are self-driven. This is a great way to get hands on experience and work with a leadership team to make important decisions

 

Digital Marketing Internship:

Intern will be responsible for implementing and creating a consistent digital marketing campaign. Responsibilities include creating digital marketing material and creating promotional strategy for the city and world. This puts a strong focus on website analytics, updates, and social media presence. This is a great way for people interested in advertising, public relations, graphic design or marketing to get first-hand experience and create a portfolio of their work

 

Community Partnership Internship:

Intern will be responsible for identifying and contacting potential community partners via multiple communication methods including email, phone call, in-person meetings, social media, attending special events, etc. The goal for CCC is to secure potential partnerships and collect information so we can create a volunteer opportunity calendar for the fall and beyond. Need people with strong communication skills and are self-driven and organized. A familiarity with New Orleans is a plus. This is a great way to learn about a lot of different organizations in New Orleans while helping start a new nonprofit in the city while honing communication, partnership, marketing, and community experience.

 Balance Yoga and Wellness Center

 

Community Outreach Intern

The intern will be responsible for helping to plan and organize studio fundraisers. Responsibilities include identifying charities that would like to partner with Balance, helping to promote via social media and internet, and helping to create materials.  

Other activities include looking to increase awareness about yoga and its ability to help with stress and general public health.  Skills in social media, marketing, internet would be useful

 

Community Health & Nutrition

Someone with a strong interest in nutrition & health.  Work with registered dietitian on creating simple materials to be distributed to the public about easy ways to improve diet quality.  Strategize on events that would appeal and take the stigma away from healthy eating.  Help to gather and post healthy recipe ideas and other health tips.

Skills in cooking, event planning, web savvy 

 

Edible Garden 

There is a big outdoor space that is begging for plants.  Intern will help to identify best plants for the area, potentially help with installation of beds and planting garden.  Ideal for someone who wants to get their hands dirty and spend time outside.

  Crescent City Jewish News

 

The mission of the Crescent City Jewish News (CCJN) is to provide continuous coverage of news that will inform, support and promote the Greater New Orleans Jewish community and all extended families located throughout the United States,  Israel and the world.  They are recruiting interns for the following positions:

 

ASSISTANT EDITOR - General editing of feature stories and columns to be posted to the Crescent City Jewish News website (http://ccjn.net). The feature "This Day in Jewish History" by Tulane alumnus Mitchell Levin (A&S '61) is a specific task that will take a concerted effort to edit all 365 days and will require at least two students.

 

REPORTER - General reporting of stories of interest to the Tulane Jewish community. Students would learn how to write stories in a journalistic style for posting on the web as well as to be instructed in taking photos to accompany stories. Reporters would never be put into dangerous areas or report on crime stories. Typical coverage would revolve about panel discussions and lectures  sports stories or special events.

 

SOCIAL MEDIA COORDINATOR - Duties would require knowledge of Twitter and Facebook and ability to post items of interest that will connect the Greater New Orleans community and the Jewish community of New Orleans to the Crescent City Jewish News website. Such items may be to send out alerts about major stories being posted or significant community deaths.

 

MARKETING ASSOCIATE - The duties of this associate would be to help in creating events designed to familiarize the community with the mission statement and goals of the Crescent City Jewish News. Special events such as panel discussions on specific topics such as Human Trafficking could be sponsored by the CCJN and held in coordination with the Jewish Community Center or Tulane University. This associate would assist the Marketing Director and work with the social media coordinator to bring attention to these events.

Metaire Sanctuary on the Lake

 

 

MSL is a state non-profit operating under the fiscal agency of Gulf Restoration Network dedicated to environmental conservation.  They are trying to save a local piece of land from development in order to turn it into a public nature preserve.

 

This internship opportunity will include administrative support, event planning assistance, and help preparing for meetings with political and community leaders.  The internship is unpaid, but offers: flexible hours; the chance to make great connections in the nonprofit and environmental activism community; fundraising and community outreach experience; and letters of recommendation from the two professors who founded the organization if all goes well.  They are looking for applicants who are enthusiastic and interested in community action.  Experience in administrative work, environmental studies, public health, and/or marketing is favorable but not required.
