Get Experience, Earn Credit, and Fulfill your 2nd Tier
Public service internships are a great way for juniors and seniors to fulfill the 2nd tier of their graduation requirement, earn credit
hours, get involved in the New Orleans community, and gain professional experience.
Students interested in doing a public service internship in the Spring semester of 2014 are invited to attend this information session and learn about unique opportunities, application process, and deadlines. Students will also hear about International Service Programs offered in Summer 2014.

Bryan Ueng at The Academy of Chinese Studies

Bryan Ueng is a Senior at Tulane majoring in Mathematics and Economics. In addition to having worked with Goldman, Sachs & Co last summer, Bryan is the VP of Finance at the Asian-American Student Union, and is a fluent speaker of Mandarin Chinese. He is doing his public service internship this semester with The Academy of Chinese Studies, which has been an excellent fit for his abilities and interests. In his own words:
"I am learning intangible lessons in how to operate a successful nonprofit. I have taken public economics classes that study the use of public resources to establish institutions that maximize social benefit, and the Academy is a very good example of this economic theory."

Apply to be a Public Service Fellow!
The Public Service Fellows Program aims to recruit and train student leaders who will become the face of service-learning on and off campus. By participating in the program, students earn 4 credit hours and complete their second tier graduation requirement. Students will also develop a one-on-one relationship with faculty members and community partners, grow in public service leadership and professional development, and learn to be innovative in by creating solutions to service issues with a practical and academic focus.
CPS is currently accepting applications to select fellows for Spring 2014. Apply HERE as soon as possible and don't miss the November 8th deadline!

Our Garden is a non-profit organization building urban gardens in marginalized communities across Orleans Parish. They are looking for dedicated individuals who are committed to helping create lush botanical spaces in New Orleans.
Our Garden provides targeted internships that are specifically aligned to student's academic interests and career field. This is a list of essential tasks they would like to accomplish:

ReNew Cultural Arts Academy is looking for Spring Interns
ReNEW Cultural Arts Academy promotes the integration of arts into the classroom, through music, art, drama and mixed media.
Music Mentor: ReNEW Cultural Arts Academy is looking for a mentor to provide individualized instruction to marching band members in grades 5-8. Band practice is from 3-5 PM Mon-Thurs and the position will most likely involve 1:1 tutoring with a student in a particular instrument. Instruments include but are not limited to: clarinet, drums, piano, trumpet and many more. The ReNEW marching band will have various performances throughout the semester and the mentor's ultimate goal will be to help students become performance-ready.
Media Intern / Videographer: ReNEW Cultural Arts Academy is seeking intern to develop media materials showcasing student achievement during extended-day hours. Intern will use technical and creative skills to document the school's programs and performances. Assignments include but are not limited to: collecting footage and photographs, crafting short videos that can be used for fundraising, recruitment and general information sharing. Intern will have opportunity to contribute to other informational or publicity materials including the website and weekly newsletter. The ideal intern will have experience in photography, film and/or media production, including shooting and editing. This is an opportunity to communicate the importance of extended-day learning, take the lead on creative and independent projects and expand your portfolio!

The Tulane Undergraduate Research Journal
The Tulane Undergraduate Research Journal is a new publication starting on campus. It is an annual peer-reviewed publication of articles written by Tulane University undergraduates, or recent graduates, from all academic fields. Its goals are to add to the body of knowledge in all fields and to showcase the outstanding scholarship of undergraduates at Tulane University. The Journal is published electronically on the web.
The Journal publishes original work only, including scholarly research, data-based research, and critical work in the fine and performing arts. To be eligible for publication the research/scholarship must be faculty-mentored.
Manuscripts may be submitted by current Tulane University undergraduates who conducted research or scholarly or creative activity either at Tulane or elsewhere. Manuscripts with multiple authors are accepted. Recent graduates may submit manuscripts for research conducted during their undergraduate careers. Manuscripts may be submitted at any time. Through a peer-review and faculty-review editorial process, manuscripts are examined for the qualities and caliber that make the research appropriate for publication. Editors will work with students on revisions of their manuscripts. Please see the website for detailed instructions.
