Your Portal to Academic Community Engagement

 

IMPACT is produced weekly to inform the Tulane University community about academic engagement options that fulfill the public service graduation requirement. This forum will provide an overview of programs offered through the Center for Public Service, announce information sessions, application requirements and deadlines, and post ongoing internship opportunities. It will also highlight student interns, community partner agencies, study-abroad programs, and service-learning courses. Read on and engage!

  Jazz Fest Ticket Give-Away!

 

 

 

The Center for Public Service is giving away a PAIR of free tickets to Jazz Fest, applicable to any one day during the first weekend of the festival (April 25-28).  To enter the drawing, you must be a Tulane undergraduate student, and you must "like" and "share" the CPS Facebook page

April 30th is the deadline to apply to the CPS Internship Program for Summer 2013.  Make sure to submit your application soon!
 
July 31st is the deadline to apply for Fall 2013, but we are accepting applications now.  Find your internship placement NOW, especially if you plan to leave New Orleans for the summer, so you don't miss the deadline....go ahead and apply!

The Center for Public Service is hosting their internship fair on Wednesday, April 10th from 5:30-7:00pm in the LBC Qatar Ballroom.  There will be representatives from over 100 community partner organizations in attendance. Professional attire is required.

  Newcomb Leadership Luncheon Seeking Nominees   
 

The Newcomb Leadership Luncheon is a leadership luncheon to help women student leaders on campus network with each other as well as define and develop their leadership skills. The 2013 lunch will be held on April 16th, 2013 at 12 noon.
We are seeking nominations from members of the Tulane community. Since networking will be a main theme, we are looking for women student leaders from all student organizations as well as those students who demonstrate the ability to lead but may not hold an officially recognized leadership position. Please submit your nominee's name as well as any other information you feel is pertinent to enobles1@tulane.edu by March 29th, 2013.

  Undergraduate Journal of Service-Learning and Community-Based Research Call for Submissions
 

The editorial team seeks submissions from undergraduates for volume 2 of Undergraduate Journal of Service Learning and Community-Based Research, which is a refereed, multi-disciplinary, online undergraduate journal open to all undergraduate students in the U.S. and across the globe. The journal is dedicated to publishing the intellectual and reflective work by undergraduates on service learning, community-based research, and all related curriculum- and/or research-based public community engagement activities. The editorial team of Undergraduate Journal of Service Learning and Community-Based Research encourages undergraduates to pursue their own intellectual projects and to join the academic conversation. The journal will publish undergraduate research that advances knowledge in service learning, community-based research, and all related curriculum and/or research-based public community engagement activities. All manuscripts will go through a review process.

students to get involved in the New Orleans community while applying their knowledge and skills. 

 

By doing a public service internship, juniors and seniors have the opportunity to:

    • Work with a community organization of your choice;
    • Gain professional experience;
    • Earn up to 3 hours at the 4000-level in your major/minor field;
    • Fulfill the 2nd tier of the Tulane public service graduation requirement;
    • Make a lasting impact in your community.

Summer and Fall Internship Opportunities

 **The YMCA of Greater New Orleans

is looking for a summer intern to assist with media and community outreach for its 33rd Annual Corporate Cup 5K in December of 2013.  Interested candidates should email Shannan Cvitanovic: shannanc@ymcaneworleans.org

 

 **The Ogden Museum of Southern Art has internships available for the summer and fall!  The Development Intern will assist with grant-writing, the museum membership program, special events, sponsorships and more.  The Photography Intern will help to document museum events and exhibits.  Contact Ellen Balkin: ebalkin@ogdenmuseum.org.
