2013 ANNUAL MSA SHOW & SALE
|
Our 2013 Annual Show & Sale is a great time to select some new genetics for your stock!
We will again be hosting our Show & Sale at the Rivers Rec Centre in Rivers, MB (appx. 1/2 hour northwest of Brandon).
The Annual Show & Sale is about top quality sheep and education. This is a way to improve your flock and learn about the launch of the Canadian Lamb Producers Cooperative and have input into the NEW Code on the Practice for the Care and Handling of Sheep.
This is your ONLY opportunity to have input into a Code that is workable for Sheep Producers. Therefore, it is important that you view the document now and be prepared to make comments at the Show & Sale, or send your comments in to MSA and we will forward on.
Read the Draft Code of practice here http://www.nfacc.ca/codes-of-practice/sheep as soon as possible.
SHOW & SALE INFORMATION
The event will be open to both purebred rams/ewes and commercial ewes. We will once again have market lamb and jackpot ewe lamb classes. Hair sheep classes for both Dorper and Katadhin breeders are welcomed. We will be allowing entry of mature animals born after January 1, 2009.
You are also welcome to show your sheep with no obligation
to sell, provided you enter at least one animal in the sale. This is a great opportunity for breeders who want to promote their sheep, but are limited on the animals they can commit to the sale. Also, if you are a spring breeder, you can take this opportunity to showcase your young stock and drum up interest for sales at a future date.
We want to see a large number of top quality sheep at this year's sale and we need your help to do it. Focusing on maternal genetics? Manitoba is in need of top quality female lines! No experience showing? No problem! This event is all about the promotion of sheep, not the show ring. So, as you plan your 2013 marketing strategy, make sure to keep the annual MSA Show and Sale in mind.
DOWNLOAD & SUBMIT BY AUGUST 9, 2013. E-mail to:mb@mbsheep.ca or fax to (204) 253-9308.

SPEAKER: MSA Board / Brian Greaves (Producer / Member of Development Team) led discussion with members regarding the Draft Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Sheep.
The Canadian Sheep Federation (CSF) and the National Farm Animal Care Council (NFACC) have a draft code for us to review and make comments on. Your opinions are welcomed and will be recorded.
The sheep Code revision is led by a 17-person Code Development Committee. Members include sheep producers, animal welfare and enforcement representatives, researchers, veterinarians and government representatives. The final sheep Code of Practice will be released by the end of this year. More information on the Code development process is available at www.nfacc.ca/codes-of-practice.
The sheep Code is one of eight Codes of Practice currently under revision as part of a multi-year NFACC project. Codes of Practice serve as our national understanding of animal care requirements and recommended practices. It is important Codes be scientifically informed, practical and reflect societal expectations for responsible farm animal care. The Codes cover housing, feed and water, handling, euthanasia, transport and other important management practices.
