Former YRP Participant Recognized as Spotlight Student and Cheerleading Champion

CAHEC loves to hear about youth residents doing positive things at home, at school, and in their community. During the 2013-2014 Youth Recognition Program (YRP), we were introduced to Tomera Miller, a resident at Village of New Hope Apartments, who we recently found out is doing amazing things in each of those areas. Stefanie Lee, Community Investments Specialist at CAHEC, vividly remembers Tomera as an outstanding student. "She was so outgoing during the YRP trip that summer and was really fun to be around. I remember her quickly making friends with students from other communities, having a positive attitude at all the events, and always laughing throughout the day."

In May, Tomera's school recognized her as a Spotlight Student for the 2015-2016 school year. This award, given to students to acknowledge their outstanding personal achievements, was presented during a recent Board of Education meeting. Her teacher reported she was "very helpful, organized, focused, and diligent. While she struggled academically in the beginning of the year, she persevered and brought up each of her grades - which are now excellent. She has accomplished this while also being an award winning cheerleader outside of school, and we know she will be very successful in life."

Fund Development Division Welcomes New Employees

CAHEC's Fund Development division is pleased to announce two new additions to the team. Dan Tatar has joined the CAHEC family as a Regional Fund Development Specialist with a focus on the state of Virginia. Prior to joining CAHEC, Dan worked at Virginia Community Development Corporation and Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. Jonathan Kinsey has also joined the department as a Fund Development Specialist. Jonathan transitioned to his new role from an Asset Manager position here at CAHEC. Both Dan and Jonathan will handle investor origination, relationship management, fund due diligence and closing, and market analysis.

Mark Gipner, Senior Fund Development Manager, is excited to have Dan and Jonathan as part of the Fund Development division. "Both Jonathan and Dan bring valuable experience and skill sets that will enhance CAHEC's overall fund development efforts. They are great assets to the division and we're pleased to have them as part of the team."

Our Mission in Action

  • The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina's Summer Feeding Program is in full swing at several of our local properties! This new CAHEC Foundation initiative provides at least three lunches per week to students living at CAHEC-sponsored properties during the summer. We can't wait to share stories and pictures as this partnership continues over the next two months!
  • The CAHEC crew has attended several groundbreaking and ribbon cutting ceremonies over the last few weeks, including the celebration at Cooper Terrace. Community leaders and project team members came together to celebrate the opening of this 56-unit development for families located in Elkin, North Carolina.
  • We're excited to share our annual publication, Making an Impact: CAHEC at Work, won a prestigious 2016 APEX Award of Excellence in the Annual Reports - Electronic category. We enjoy sharing the stories of our mission in action with our partners. Stay tuned for a new version in the next several weeks!
CAHEC is more than a provider of equity financing. We are committed to being a relevant presence within the communities we serve by supporting a number of initiatives that provide sustainable opportunities such as loans, grants, and our unique Community Investments to our partners. A detailed overview of our Community Investments grants can be found on our websiteTo schedule an orientation or for assistance, please contact Stefanie Lee at 919-645-9825 or slee@cahec.com.
