CAHEC Sponsors Camp for
Youth Residents
Since 2011, CAHEC has been a proud sponsor of Camp Challenge, a week-long summer camp for high-achieving, low-resource middle school students. Created by the North Carolina Bankers Association Foundation, Camp Challenge allows students to participate in traditional camp activities while also offering a course to enhance their financial literacy. Because CAHEC's Youth Leadership Initiative was designed to provide personal development and educational opportunities, middle school students living at CAHEC-sponsored properties are eligible to apply for Camp Challenge this summer!
During their week at camp, students participate in a variety of educational opportunities, including a daily personal finance course and practicing basic etiquette, as well as reading, writing, and speaking skills. Surrounding these educational components are a variety of traditional camp activities, like archery, swimming, teambuilding, gardening, and hiking. In the evenings, students may sit around a campfire, attend a block party, or participate in another group activity. CAHEC believes that by combining a fun camp atmosphere with a few educational activities, students will be better equipped to make personal and financial decisions that will positively impact their future.

Our Mission in Action
CAHEC is more than a provider of equity financing. We are committed to being a relevant presence within the communities we serve by supporting a number of initiatives that provide sustainable opportunities such as loans, grants, and our unique Community Investments to our partners.
- Congratulations to the Rooms to Go Distribution and Retail Center, one of our New Markets Tax Credits projects, on being awarded the 2016 Triangle Business Journal Space Award for "Economic Development - New Industry." We are proud to be part of such an amazing development!
- Congratulations to The Shire in Chesapeake, VA, and Drew Hills in Battleboro, NC, on collectively being awarded $15,000 through CAHEC's Active Lifestyle Grant. This grant will help provide both properties with funding towards the installation of a quality recreation area for resident to use.
- Emerson Glen in Raleigh, NC, recently received $6,500 through CAHEC's Rex Williams Wellness Grant to up-fit the wellness room on their property. Residents now have a treadmill, elliptical, spin bike, and free weights, to use during their daily work out routines.
Our Community Investments staff conducts educational orientations to assist our partners with selecting CAHEC wellness and education grants. To schedule an orientation, or for assistance with CAHEC's Community Investments, please contact Stefanie Lee at 919-645-9825 or slee@cahec.com.
