District to Launch Project for School Climate and Discipline Improvement
The Christina School District will soon launch a structured process to engage all members of the community in improving school climate and discipline in Christina schools. "School climate" refers to the overall school environment for teaching and learning. Christina hopes to improve school climate across the district, to create consistent school environments where all students are positively engaged in learning, and where high expectations are set for students to succeed.
The issue of discipline will also be addressed, with the aim of developing equitable, sustainable solutions for schools, designing alternative learning opportunities for students, and applying resources to support student success. Through community meetings, surveys, and opportunities for engagement by all areas of the public, the District will develop priorities that can translate into action for improvement. More information will be shared as the process is developed, and will be presented publicly at the May 17 Board of Education meeting to be held at 7:00 p.m. at Gauger-Cobbs Middle School.

Announcement of Statewide Assessment Testing Date Ranges
Families should be aware that the State of Delaware's Department of Education requires all public schools in Delaware to administer specific standardized tests each year to students. Each of these statewide assessments are administered by schools within specific date ranges (testing windows) that are set by the Delaware Department of Education. Parents will be receiving a letter from their child's school that includes a list of these statewide assessments, along with their respective testing windows and affected grades. If you have any questions about your child's school's state testing schedules, please contact the school Principal.
Please note that Delaware Department of Education policy prohibits students from possessing any electronic devices, such as cell phones, iPods, MP3 players, tablets, etc., in the test setting. Please be sure to talk with your child about this policy. Schools will also remind students of this policy prior to testing. Students can either leave their devices in their lockers or turn them in to their teachers before the test session begins. [ Assessment Dates]
