Students were actively engaged throughout the process. Each child had a turn mixing the wet and dry ingredients and then sat down for a read-aloud with Eric Carle's Pancakes, Pancakes while their teachers took on the role of chef. After the story, students were asked to compare and contrast Jack's pancakes from Pancakes, Pancakes and the pancakes that were made. This lesson extended throughout the week as students continued to review the features of a great procedural text. Also, in case you are wondering, yes they ate the pancakes!
