Fifth Annual Middle School Soccer Championship:
Two New Champions Crowned
Shue-Medill Middle School
2015 Boys Champions
Gauger-Cobbs Middle School
2015 Girls Champions

The 5th Annual Christina District Middle School Soccer Championships featured the crowning of two new champions. In the boys final, Shue-Medill was able to complete their season undefeated with a 4-1 win over Gauger-Cobbs. Gauger-Cobbs struck first but Shue-Medill methodically worked their way back to dominate a finals victory.

The girls final featured excitement to the very end. Gauger-Cobbs took an early lead only to see Shue-Medill tie it up and then go ahead 2-1. Play continued back and forth leading to a Gauger-Cobbs tying goal. As time ran down and overtime seemed very possible, Gauger-Cobbs nailed the go ahead goal and held their 3-2 lead as Shue-Medill worked furiously to tie the game. As the final whistle sounded the Gauger-Cobbs girls celebrated their first girls title over four-time champion Shue-Medill.

Kirk and Bayard opened the day with a co-ed consolation game won by Kirk. Newark High School stadium was again filled with loud and supportive fans from all the teams who enjoyed the action under the lights.

On Friday, November 6, Newark High School will host the 2nd Middle School Soccer Showcase. The girls will play at 3:30 p.m. followed by the boys starting about 4:30 p.m. This will be the last opportunity to see the soccer stars from each of the middle school teams before they don the high school uniforms of Christiana, Glasgow, and Newark High School next year.
