Summer Learning Can Help Close The Achievement Gap
Celebrate Summer Learning Day
TODAY, July 14th!
It's National Summer Learning Day!
National Summer Learning Day
is a great opportunity to showcase the importance of summer learning. Host an event this week or anytime during the summer!

Join the National Summer Learning Association (NSLA) in showing people in your community how summer learning programs give children and youth exciting experiences to learn and grow and develop skills to succeed in school, work, college and life.

Kids work hard to learn important skills like math and reading during the school year. But each summer, they can lose up to two months of those hard-earned skills. Summer learning loss puts kids at risk for not graduating high school, and can jeopardize their future.

High-quality enrichment opportunities during the summer can make a difference in stemming learning loss, and ultimately closing the country's achievement gap.

The National Summer Learning Association and the Indiana Afterschool Network are working to elevate the importance of keeping kids learning, healthy and safe every summer, and you can, too.

Summer Learning Day Resources
The National Summer Learning Association offers several resources for communities and families that are working to keep kids learning, active and healthy all summer long.

Here are a few highlights:

This Action Tool is designed to share the key steps you can take this summer to increase access to high-quality summer learning, meals and jobs opportunities in your commu- nity. Whether you are a city, nonpro t, school, business or philanthropic leader, you will  nd examples of how your peers across the country are  nding innovative ways to move summer from a time of risk to a time of great reward.

National Summer Learning Association (NSLA), in consultation with the White House, U.S. Department of Education, and Civic Nation, developed this guide to help state and local leaders identify the most promising funding streams to support summer learning and to show how innovative states, districts, and communities have creatively blended public and private funding to develop programs, services and opportunities to meet the needs of young people during the critical summer months.

Our vision is that all Indiana children and youth have access to high quality, affordable afterschool and summer learning programs that prepare them for success in school, work, & life.
