WHY Host a Policymaker Site Visit?
A "site visit" is a sure fire way to engage your policymaker and/or their staff in your work. It allows them to see firsthand the work that you are doing and connects them in an effective way by creating a visual image.
Many site visits include a tour and give the policymaker a chance to meet your staff and speak with the children and families who are benefiting from your program.
Inviting policymakers to visit your afterschool program is a powerful way to help them understand your program's value.
"It's important to be in touch with local elected officials and staff even when you're not asking them for something. If I have an event that I think will allow an official to shine, I make sure their field representative knows about it, and knows their boss is welcome to stop by and say a few words."
