On Our Radar

* Brexit's Impact.
While there's a lot of uncertainty surrounding the U.K.'s exit from the European Union, analysts are discussing some possible impacts. One way consumers may benefit: bargains for Americans traveling to Europe.

* Toms Shoes Opens Store.
Known for its philanthropic "One for One" model, the company is opening its first retail store in Minnesota's Mall of America later this year. The 2,000-square-foot space will sell shoes, eyewear, men's and women's apparel, accessories and coffee.
Hot Topics:
What's Selling

First begun in April, this hot discussion is getting some new interest this month, as retailers share what's selling in their stores. A Virginia  shop owner writes: "Corkcicle has been amazing. We offer the vinyl monogramming, and are having a ton of fun with it. Simply Southern, I just can't say enough good about the line. I'm starting to be a little more conservative buying it, but it still sells very well." Tip: Organization Deters Thieves

Bill Bregar
Want to make your store less attractive to shoplifters? Get organized, says Bill Bregar of Loss Prevention Systems: "A disorganized store invites shoplifters because they know the owner and staff aren't on top of things and may not catch on right away when items are missing. If the shelves are dusty, merchandise isn't neat and displays don't look well taken care of, people will notice and see it as an opportunity for theft." Subscribers can read Bill's full interview in Giftbeat's July issue. Not a subscriber yet? Pick: Rock 'Em Socks

Anyone else a fan of these licensed NCAA socks from Rock 'Em Apparel? Featuring colorful, fun graphics, with multiple designs for each school, crew socks include a double-banded top, upper and lower arch compression, and double-cushioned soles. With licenses for about two dozen colleges (and more to come), wholesale starts at $9. Look for the company's Atlana debut (Gameday temps, Bldg. 3, Floor 5, Booth 2007).
Trend: Blues, Pinks In Jewelry

blue trend According to a National Jeweler editor who attended JCK Las Vegas earlier this month, blues and pinks are dominating the jewelry category. "In blue hues, it was no surprise to see that sapphires were still having their day," writes Brecken Branstrator on the publication's blog. "Aquamarine also seemed to really stand out in the strong, saturated shades that show the best of the stone." Also spotted: updated looks for pearls.
