Federal Transit Administration and US DOT Updates

Secretary Foxx addressed the new Transit Asset Management Proposed Rule. Read the rule above, or check out the FastLane blog post.  Comments on the rule are due November 30, 2015.

Notes from the FTA Safety Prrogram NPRM Webinars are now available on the FTA's website. The original posting is available here. Comments on the proposed rule are due by October 13, 2015.

FHWA providing funds for On-The-Job Training/Supportive Service Programs - up to $3 million to help state DOTs or local transportation agencies develop the skilled workforce needed to ensure safety on public roads. Deadline to apply for the funds is December 23, 2015.

Low or No Emission Vehicle Program Notice of Funding Availability - This program provides funding for transit agencies and states for capital acquisitions and leases of zero- and low-emission transit buses, including any required supporting facilities such as recharging, refueling, and maintenance facilities. Learn more about this grant, which closes on November 23, 2015.

The DOT's FastLane blog posted about the new Build America Transportation Investment Center (BATIC) which will serve as a contact point for agencies looking to access federal resources.

Interested in Title VI Plans? NCST (the National Center on Senior Transportation) published a great article showcasing one plan.

Radio Station KSKQ interviews AARP PPI's Jana Lynott, Bandana Shrestha (Community Outreach Director for the Oregon Office) and Don Bruland (Active AARP volunteer) for its Age of Adventure Series, where they talk about creating livable communities, the AARP Livability Index, and Oregon's new Lifelong Housing Certification Program.  Listen to the whole interview online.

Publications

The TRB published Public Transportation: Paratransit and Emerging Technologies 2015 exploring issues in the public transit sector.

Roadway to Safer Tribal Communities Toolkit - Published by the CDC, this toolkit provides resources to improve safety and address issues disproportionately affecting tribal communities.

Opportunities

NTI is offering a Procurement for Small and Medium Transit Systems course November 16-17, giving an overview of transit procurement and contract procurement best practices for recipients of FTA funding. NTI is also offering an Understanding ADA course.

Smart Growth America is offering a limited number of 2016 technical assistance workshops available to interested communities for zero cost. This award gives communities a chance to understand the technical aspects of smart growth through a one- or two-day workshop. Applications are due by Wednesday, October 25, 2015.

TRB's Young Members Council is accepting nominations for the Outstanding Young Member Award, recognizing exceptional young member service to TRB and achievements in transportation research, policy, or practice. Nominations are due by October 16, 2015.
