in Denver.  Save-the-dates were distributed and nominations solicited. Within one week Linda received two self-nominated and three WSDOT staff-nominated individuals.

Federal Transit Administration and US DOT Updates

US DOT's FastLane blog spoke about the importance of rural transportation in America.

FTA published an NPRM and request for comment on a new Public Transportation Safety Program. Comments due October 13, 2015.

Beyond Traffic 2045: Reimagining Transportation will start with an introduction by Secretary Foxx on September 18, looking at the future of transportation. 

US DOT announced $19.5 million in funding to 21 organizations to support comprehensive planning projects to improve public transit. Read more about the grants on the DOT's website.

People Mover blazes a trail for veterans - After a review process, People Mover has received a grant to expand its services to Walla 
Walla, WA. The transit provider overcame obstacles to interstate transit, including gaining recognition for its pooled insurance with the help of Oregon DOT and Senator Ron Wyden. 

Opportunities

The NTI is offering a Procurement for Small and Medium Transit Systems course on  on November 16-17. The course gives an overview of transit procurement, emphasizing "best practices" for contract procurement by systems who are recipients of FTA funding. NTI is also offering a course on Understanding ADA.

The FHWA Let's Talk Performance: Telling the Performance Story webinar will be held Tuesday, September 22 at 2pm. The session will provide an opportunity for transit operators to speak with peers and discuss topics relevant to transportation professionals.

TRB Webinar: Putting Transportation Asset Management Into Practice in a State Department of Transportation on September 24 will address developing a transportation asset management plan that is MAP-21 compliant, as well as other considerations.

Publications

The US Government Accountability Office (GAO) published a review of US DOT Vehicle Safety Inspections. Read the report.

Strengthening Skills Training and Career Pathways Across the Transportation Industry, a report between multiple government agencies, includes a summary and transportation-specific findings.
