National RTAP Seeking Presenters for 2015 Conference

National RTAP is seeking presentation proposals for our second Technical Assistance Conference in Denver, CO from October 27-30, 2015Reaching New Heights in Rural and Tribal Transit will be filled with sessions in five major routes: planning, design, integration and implementation; policy, funding and finance; special topics in rural mobility; operations; and technology. To submit an abstract, visit the conference website. Abstracts accepted through the end of April. 
Deadline Approaching for National RTAP Technical Assistance Applications

National RTAP is soliciting technical assistance projects from rural and tribal transportation programs. To read more about the types of projects we are looking for, as well as other specifics, please read our news article 

Submit your preliminary application via this link. The online application is set up so that you can access it multiple times until the application period is over. All applications are due at 12:00 PM EST on Friday, February 27, 2015.

Register for the Next 101 Webinar: Ethics in Transit Decision-Making

National RTAP will host our next 101 Webinar on Wednesday, March 18th from 3-4PM ET. Join SURTC Director Jill Hough as she explores ethics and the need for ethical education in the transit workplace. 

What is ethics? Is ethics merely the difference between right and wrong or good and bad? What issues should be considered in ethical decision-making? Various decision-making tests exists for ethics and will be examined during this webinar. Register now!
FTA/DOT Updates

The FY 2015 Federal Transit Administration Apportionments have been published in the Federal Register. Keep in mind that only 8/12th is actually apportioned at this time based on the end of the current public transportation authorization in May. 

FMCSA has formally created a committee that will look into updating truck and bus driver training. 

Tribal Transit Program Discretionary Funding applications are now due February 25th at 11:59 PM EST due to maintenance on grants.gov from Feb 14-17. Please keep in mind that there may not be another solicitation in 2015, so if your tribal transit system will need funding in the next two years, you should apply during this solicitation. TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) has developed a web-only document Close to Home: A Handbook for Transportation-Efficient Growth in Small Communities and Rural Areas, which guides small communities in smart growth principles.

CTAA is soliciting applications for Technical Assistance for Rural and Tribal Communities through March 2nd, 2015.

National RTAP is looking for your help with our new Spotlight on Best Practices article. Do you have a travel training program? Please fill out the very short survey about your best practices. 

Easter Seals Project Action Consulting wants to know how your transit agency handles snow removal (unless you are lucky enough to live where there's no snow!). Please answer the survey by February 27th.
