CITE Offers Online Courses on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
The Consortium for ITS Training and Education (CITE) offers fee-based courses on Intelligent Transportation Systems. Courses include introductions to ITS, Rural ITS, and new advances in the technology. The courses are free to federal employees when using the code "PCB" to register. NCST Online Exchange and AARP Article About Senior Transportation
The National Center for Senior Transportation (NCST) is hosting an online discussion about senior transportation. According to NCST, "this online network serves as an opportunity for professionals in aging services and in the transportation field to share their challenges, strategies, and creative solutions in financing a range of transportation services for older adults." Interested transit professionals are encouraged to visit the NCST website, sign up or log in to the discussion community, and begin sharing ideas. The discussion is open until February 15, 2013.
The Association of American Retired Persons (AARP) has published the report Meeting Transportation Needs in an Aging Friendly Community, which can be viewed on AARP's website. The report discusses issues in senior transportation and solutions to meet older adults' needs, including using public transit.

GAO Reports on ADA Paratransit Services, Funding for New Starts and Small Starts
A third report examines funding for New Starts and Small Starts Projects from 2004 until 2012. The GAO studied the extent to which non-New Starts funding was used to fund a percentage of New Starts, Small Starts, and Very Small Starts during this period.

MAP-21 and Transportation Funding to Federal Lands
The Paul S. Sarbanes Transit in the Parks Technical Assistance Center ( TRIPTAC) recently published some guidance for transit providers whose services are adjacent to, or extend to federal lands. The Federal Lands Transportation Program (FLTP) focuses on the transportation infrastructure owned and maintained by Federal lands management agencies. This includes funding for the operation and maintenance of transit facilities (including vehicles), and any transportation project eligible for assistance under title 23 that is on a public road within or adjacent to, or that provides access to, Federal lands open to the public. The Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP) focuses on transportation planning, research, engineering, preventive maintenance, rehabilitation, restoration, construction, and reconstruction of Federal Lands Access Transportation Facilities located on or adjacent to, or that provide access to, Federal land. It also includes the operation and maintenance of transit facilities which includes the operation of all components of a transit system, including vehicles. |
