TRB Releases Uses of Social Media in Public Transportation Report
The Transportation Research Board (TRB) has released a report outlining the uses and successes of transit agencies using social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and blogs. For transit agencies interested in using free social media to their benefit, and who want to see how other agencies have employed the technology, this report is invaluable. In 2011, National RTAP published a technical brief outlining how transit agencies can best use social media to their advantage. You can download the technical brief in our resource library.

Happy National Transportation Week!

This year is the 50th anniversary of National Transportation Week. With its humble beginnings in the Women's Transportation Club of Houston, the event was nationally recognized by President John F. Kennedy's administration. The DOT is marking this year's occasion by talking about the importance of transportation in our society, the proposed transportation bill being a part of a long-term solution. To keep up with the conversation, visit www.dot.gov and Secretary LaHood's blog, and keep the dialogue going within your agency!

ESPA Webinar on Best Practices in Premium Paratransit Services
Easter Seals Project Action conducted a webinar on May 16th showcasing best practices in paratransit services above and beyond the minimum required by ADA guidelines. Karen Hoesch, director of ACCESS Transportation Systems in Pittsburgh, PA, spoke about her agency's experience with implementing paratransit services that are complementary to basic paratransit, comparing extra services to amenities. She touched upon special considerations in rural environments, including long travel time and building stops into the trip. This information will be essential to transit systems that currently provide paratransit services and are interested in meeting these needs in a more comprehensive way. This webinar information is available at ESPA's site, here.
