Connecting CILs and Mobility Managers for Accessible Transportation
On February 29 at 2 p.m. Eastern, Easter Seals Project Action (ESPA) will conduct a free webinar: Connecting Centers for Independent Living (CILs) and Mobility Managers to Enhance Accessible Transportation. This webinar will provide an overview of the Mobility Management Independent Living (MMIL) program, developed by ESPA in partnership with the Association of Programs for Rural Independent Living and the National Council on Independent Living. Through the program, CIL professionals and mobility managers collaborate to strengthen relationships between their groups and raise awareness of the issues people with disabilities face as they seek the transportation they need. NTI Course: Implementing Rural Transit Technology
Rural transit providers are interested in exploring how technology can help increase operating efficiencies and improve safety. LaHood Announced $40.8 Million to Transit in the Parks Program
Secretary LaHood announced $40.8 million for 58 projects to provide safe, convenient access for visitors to America's national parks, forests and wildlife refuges, and to modernize aging transportation infrastructure in these important destinations. Projects range from redesigning and widening the Nauset Bicycle Trail at Cape Cod National Seashore in Massachusetts to purchasing new buses to transport visitors between Sausalito and the Muir Woods National Monument in California. New Medical Certification Requirements: A Guide for Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Holders Starting January 30, 2012 and ending no later than January 30, 2014, all CDL holders must provide information to their state driver licensing agencies (SDLA) regarding the type of commercial motor vehicle operation they drive in or expect to drive in with their CDL. Drivers operating in certain types of commerce will be required to submit a current medical examiner's certificate to their SDLA to obtain a "certified" medical status as part of their driving record. CDL holders required to have a "certified" medical status who fail to provide and keep up-to-date their medical examiner's certificate with their SDLA will become "not-certified" and they may lose their CDL. FTA Invites Public Comment Regarding Reducing the Burden of NTD Reporting
The Federal Transit Administration invites public comment about the request of the Office
of Management and Budget (OMB) to extend the approval of the following information collection: the FTA is continuing to seek ways to reduce the burden of NTD reporting, in particular reporting for FTA's Rural (Section 5311) Formula Program and tribal governments participating in the Tribal Transit Program. Applications are Being Accepted for
Long Term Technical Assistance for Rural and Tribal Transit
The Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA) is accepting applications for long term technical assistance for rural and tribal transit planning due by February 7, 2012. The Tribal Passenger Transportation Technical Assistance Program and the Rural Passenger Transportation Technical Assistance Program help enhance economic growth and development by improving passenger transportation services and facilities. Technical assistance provides planning to support transit service improvements and expansion, system start-up, facility development, development of marketing plans and materials, transportation coordination, training and other public transit problem solving activities. Did you Know? National RTAP's GTFS Builder Can Create Maps and Organize Routes--Free
GTFS Builder can be accessed through National RTAP in the Cloud, and it gives step-by-step instructions on how a transit system can put its bus route and schedule data into a format that is compliant with the General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS), the format required by Google Transit and other online trip planners. Google Transit provides benefits to both travelers and transit agencies. Travelers can find transit options for their trips and connections to adjacent areas, get step-by-step directions, and even see a comparison of driving and transit cost.
