February 10, 2014 - Are you constantly busy, but are not making any real progress? Are you visiting the same issues over and over in your mind, knowing the next steps you could or should take, but then aren't taking them? Do you find that you are easily distracted in using your time on less important or less urgent activities, while those tasks, projects or decisions that are more important await your next step? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, you need to ask yourself this next very important question. What are you afraid of that is causing you to avoid focusing on what is more important and valuable to you and your future? When there is uncertainty, it is easy to procrastinate. It is also easy to fool oneself into being too busy as an excuse for not focusing on or dealing with the real critical business at hand.
Take an MM&I Moment to explore why you are caught up in busy work that is not really promoting your best interests. List the things you are doing that are not really creating value or progress for you, but you are doing them anyway. List anything that you have considered doing, or that you know a decision must be made, that is not progressing because you just keep revisiting it over and over again. Review your list and determine one simple move you can make to overcome whatever it is you are afraid may happen in order to begin to progress again. Don't allow avoidance, procrastination or distractions to undermine your ability to create your ideal life and work situation. Honor yourself by respecting your ability to take charge and take action.
