January 6, 2014 - Are you struggling because you are not motivated to do some of the work or tasks on your plate? Could it be because of an unclear purpose or undefined reasons behind the value in doing these things? Or is it that you need a reminder of your purpose and reasons?  Not everything you do in order to achieve what you ultimately desire can be glamorous or exhilarating. Having a clear purpose and strong reasons are essential to staying motivated, especially through the periods of handling activities required for success, yet seem mundane at the time.  Your purpose and reasons may also be stimulus for others to come on board and do the less exciting activitied for you.

Take an MM&I Moment to consider why the work you must do and the specific tasks you need to perform are important for achieving your goals. Which goals are they supporting? What is essential to successfully reach these goals? How are the work and the tasks on your to-do lists helping move you closer to your goals? If certain tasks are essential, but also are not very interesting to you, how can your reasons, passion, vision, and purpose engage others to take the baton and run with them? Motivation is, first and foremost, a personal initiative. Your motivation directly impacts everyone and everything around you.

If your sales people are waiting for the phone to ring OR you consider your sales people's main activity to be cold calling, you either have the wrong sales people OR you are encouraging your sales people to do the lowest return activity, and expecting high-return results.  High growth companies, even with commission-only sales people, did not make cold calling and telemarketing a priority activity. They understood that sales engagement marketing activities powerfully developed greater return, as well as value-added satisfaction among their sales force.
