MM&I Header

October 21, 2013 -  Do you feel as though everyone around you is merely working or completing things at the bare minimum necessary? Do you feel as if they are focusing just on what will be sufficient for meeting versus exceeding expectations? If some of these individuals are working directly with you or for you, then you may be falling victim to accepting mediocrity. If you are not clearly defining expectations or are simply thinking that there is nothing that you can do, you are accepting mediocrity instead of overcoming it. If you are frustrated because you feel that the mediocrity you are experiencing is affecting your ability to achieve the level of success you desire, then it is time to take charge in ways that only you can.  Instead of viewing mediocrity as a problem, see it as the opportunity for improvement that it is either in how you approach it for yourself or and how you approach working with others.

Take an MM&I Moment to identify the areas where you believe mediocrity is impacting your ability to achieve. Then list specifically why this is holding you back or limiting your ability to move forward. In areas that are directly impacting you, list some steps you can take that will enable you to begin seeing progress again at the level and standards you desire. Is it through communicating better? Is it through putting specific policies or procedures into place? Is it through training? Is it through replacing or supplementing the skill-set needed? What you may also discover in reviewing your "whys" is that what you believe is limiting you is actually not hindering you at all.  And the best part of that realization is the enthusiasm you will gain by reinforcing what you have known all along - that you can and will succeed.

Synergized Quote of the Week

"There is a real magic in enthusiasm. It spells the difference between mediocrity and accomplishment." - Norman Vincent Peale

Savvy Secret Tip of the Week

How effectively are you leveraging and collecting information about your customers in order to improve customer engagement and make better marketing decisions? Too many businesses fall short in what they can learn from trends that are occurring in their own customer database, if the right information is being collected and analyzed for strategic insights. Growth companies understand that "knowledge is power" when it comes to knowing their customers better than anyone else. To learn more, read Secrets #5 (Profit Sizing), #8 (Trend Getters), #13 (Masters of Mindshare) and #19 (Segmenting & Targeting) in my book, 50 Marketing Secrets. To order the book, CLICK HERE!

A PANELIST AT UNCC BELK COLLEGE CONFERENCE: I will be among the panelists sharing insights on Entrepreneurship today at the Belk College Professional Business Conference being held at UNC Charlotte in the Cone Center. Co-sponsored by Alpha Kappa Psi in conjunction with the Student Center for Professional Development, the conference is taking place today and tomorrow to help participant students gain career advice from industry professionals, learn about various business occupations, meet with employers, and develop essential professional skills for future success. To learn more about this event, CLICK HERE.

SPEAKING TO CABARRUS BUSINESS NETWORK OCT 3OTH: I will be the guest speaker at the October 30th Cabarrus Business Network (CBN) Group meeting being held at the Cabarrus Country Club in Concord, NC, from 7:45 a.m. - 9:15 a.m. I will be sharing some of the "Most Missed Marketing Secrets" and also will be selling and signing books at the event. To learn more about the location, directions and membership to the CBN Group, CLICK HERE.

IS YOUR AGE AGING YOU?  This is the topic of my Me, Myself & Inc. column in the October issue of Sophie Woman's Magazine. I have always been fascinated by how men and women self-impose limitations upon themselves based on their ages instead of what they are truly capable of doing. Could your age be aging you?  CLICK HERE to read the column on page 29.

ARE YOU BUILDING VALUE IN YOUR BUSINESS? In my September BizGrowth 5.0 column, I ask the question, "Are you building value while working your values?" If you have been in business for a while or are just starting a business, this column is a must-read if you aspire to sell your business and reap the rewards of building a business that survives beyond you.  Read the column by CLICKING HERE.
