Red-shoulder Hawks are nesting!
|
When you are approaching the green on #7 or after teeing off on #8 and driving down the cart path you may hear whistling, or some say its a screaming noise coming from the maintenance area. Bird watchers say its a kee-aah call (usually repeated three to four times). Courtship displays occur on the breeding grounds, and involve soaring together in broad circles while calling or soaring and diving toward one another. Males may also perform the "sky-dance" by soaring high in the air, and then making a series of steep dives, each followed by a wide spiral and rapid ascent. These courtship flights usually occur in late morning and early afternoon. Red-shouldered Hawks' mating  season is between March and July with activity usually peaking in mid-June. The breeding pair builds a stick nest (also sometimes including shredded bark, leaves and green sprigs) in a major fork of a large tree. In this case they have taken up residence in the Banyan Trees. They often use the same nest year after year, refurbishing it annually with sticks in the spring. The clutch size is typically three to four eggs. The incubation period can range from 28 to 33 days. Hatching is asynchronous, with the first chick hatching up to a week before the last. The young leave the nest at about six weeks of age but remain dependent on the parents until they are 17 to 19 weeks old. Furthermore, they may continue to roost near the nest site until the following breeding season. Breeding maturity is usually attained at 1 or 2 years of age.

Putting ~ The biggest component of your game

This month we are going to once again focus on the most important aspect of the game, putting. With so much hype surrounding the game about driving the ball far we often forget that the most used club in our bag is the putter. Developing a sound putting stroke with a putter that we have great confidence in will mean the world of difference in the way we score. It is imperative to find a putter that looks visually pleasing to our eyes along with providing the feel we want at impact. With so many putters on the market it is some times hard to chose the right model for the best results. If you are using a putter currently that doesn't look or feel quite right to you, my suggestion would be to start shopping for a new flat stick. To quote the renowned sports psychologist Dr. Bob Rottela, "confidence is what makes an individual a great putter". Without having a putter we are comfortable with we have limited confidence which results in more putts missed and higher scores.
Basic putting fundamentals:
1) Your eyes should be directly over the ball- normally this means that the ball is slightly forward of center in your stance.
2) You should stand 2-3 putter head lengths away from the ball- not to close (heel of the putter is in the air) and not to far away (toe is in the air).
3) "Stroking" motion with the putter with no wrist break- pendulum action back and forth.
4) The putter should travel as low to the ground as possible on the back stroke and forward stroke.
5) Your hands should be slightly ahead of the ball at impact to "de-loft" the putter which promotes a truer roll forward.
I hope this month's tip helps you to understand the importance of having the right putter in your bag to help you shoot lower scores and have more fun. If you are still struggling to get it in the hole, please do not hesitate to contact me for more help.

5th Annual MEATBALL Golf Tournament

The 5th Annual Mundi's Golden Meatball Cup was played on the weekend of Feb. 23rd and 24th under sunny skies. The format for this "Ryder Cup" style team event for day 1 was a 2 man best ball on the front nine and an alternate shot format for the back nine. The second day's format was a 2 man scramble on the front nine and stroke play on the back nine. This year's winning team was the "Blue" team with a strong start on day 1 winning 9 out of the possible 14 points for the day. Team "yellow" made a charge on day 2 to try to even the gap, but fell a little bit short. Congratulations go out to all of the members of team blue! Special thanks go out to all the participants in this years tournament along with thanks to Will Imondo for once again organizing this great event.

Romance filled the air at Rudy's on Valentines Day
|
Valentine's Day at Rudy's was filled with romance and delicious entree's elected and prepared by Chef Carlo and his staff. Both the restaurant and banquet room we re set up to pamper all of our guests who dined with their loved ones, family and friends. Candlelight, red tulips and roses filled the entire restaurant & pub while beautiful love songs played in the background. Many of our guests enjoyed our special cocktail menu which included...Kir Royal, Cupid-tini and a Chocolate Raspberry Martini. Our dinner menu that evening included tasty entrees such as Portobello Mushroom Ravioli, Linguini Frutti di' Mare, B  eef Wellington for two, Shrimp Scampi and Lobster Tails. Many ended their evenings with some very tempting and yummy desserts such as a fresh strawberry tart and chocolate mousse.
Beautiful roses were also given out to all of our guests.

"Had to attend to some business in Hollywood Florida. Looking for reasonable price close to my clients business activity at expensive beachfront .
SURPRISE - rooms not latest in fashion but large, comfortable and very clean (important). Staff friendly and helpful
Adjacent restaurant called Rudy's was excellent. Great food at reasonable prices with a caring attitude that made you feel part of the neighborhood gathering. Joel & Stacy the new proprietors were great hosts and Brandon the young bartender makes a great "stinger" amongst other things."

"After a devastating experience of Hurricane Sandy and not having heat and hot water for two months and lighting by candle light and generators and flashlights sure made our tranquil stay at the Hollywood Beach and Golf Resort just what the doctor would order! The lovely Golf Side Suite with a lovely terrace where the grebes and ducks parade before you in the foreground while carts breeze by with their "athletic and hacker" occupants in the background,certainly made a remarkable scene setting change for us after the horror scene we had been accustomed to for the last few months!
Peace and quiet were top notch during our stay! Surprisingly not many occupants took advantage of the pool area but I'm sure the Golf took priority as it would in my own case had I not been recovering from my fourth knee replacement last October just before Sandy paid us a visit! Now there (Sandy) is one UNWELCOME guest! My wife claims it to be the best vacation she has ever had and really turned out to be like a second honeymoon and at our ages that is saying something! The deck outback of the restaurant has another lovely view as well as an excellent menu and compliments to the chef! Early birds before 10 a.m. would most likely be satisfied with a convenient Continental Breakfast! We are looking forward to returning for another vacation and hopefully I'll get a somewhat golf game together by then(new knee--like starting all over) and my wife can enjoy sunshine and swimming by the pool and maybe even be able to face the ocean by then."

The Canadian Golf League
Join us every Monday and Wednesday at Eco Golf Club to play in the Canadian Golf league. All calibers, men and women are welcome. Each week we get started at 8:00am for sign-in's and tee off is at 8:30am.
The format is 9 hole Vegas. Join as a team or a single player, we will be more then happy to pair you up.
After golf plan to come inside the clubhouse for an ice cold beer! It's a great way to meet new people from your Province with the same interests as you! 
Remember, no need to come or call to say your playing, just come any Monday and or Wednesday mornings!
