Message from the President
by Brent Holladay, Lake County Clerk of Court

I count it a great privilege to be associated with each of you. Thank you for what you have shared with me. I appreciate what the FLGISA does to benefit each of us in our roles as IT professionals in the local government arena.
The Board has been working to build the FLGISA brand. We have contracted with VancoreJones Communications, Inc. to get our message out to local government entities that aren't familiar with what we have to offer. We seek to increase our membership with like-minded professionals.

I was invited to speak at the Florida League of Cities Symposium on Technology Innovation along with Larry Di Gioia from Altamonte Springs. I was substituting for Melinda Miller from Jupiter who was asked originally but had a conflict.
My chat was thought to be insightful enough that I was asked for a quote for the FLC Quality Cities magazine.

The Southwest District held its semi-annual meeting on November 7th at the Charlotte Harbor and Event Center in Punta Gorda. It was well attended with representatives from seven counties and six cities/towns. I was handed the torch from Toni for the job of District Director and burned myself because it was burning so brightly.

Personal Story: Six Degrees of FLGISA
by Kathi Pletzke, Town of Longboat Key
Many of you might be familiar with the parlor game called "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon," which posits that any two people on Earth are six or fewer acquaintance links apart. In the game, movie buffs challenge each other to find the shortest path between an arbitrary actor and venerated Hollywood character actor Kevin Bacon.

City of Lakeland eServies Program
by Terry Brigman, Laz Martinez, City of Lakeland
Information Technology that directly benefits the Citizens of Lakeland - That was the strategic statement made by our department before the eServices program was started.
As information technology executives and leaders we all understand how challenging it is at times to translate a strategy into a program (a collection of initiatives and projects that are designed to accomplish a strategic business objective) that can be executed and measured; however this time we got it right.

Personnel Thief
by Kathi Pletzke, Town of Longboat Key
Almost another lifetime ago, I was the IT Director for another City.
It was during the days of big hair, and even bigger glasses. I proudly wore a pair of red framed glasses, just like the frames that Sally Jesse Raphael made famous. I thought they made me look smart and stylish. Looking back at those pictures, I cringe.
