Celebrate Fuquay-Varina Festival  
Family Fun in Fuquay-Varina Style! 
Celebrate Fuquay-Varina is Saturday, June 7 in Downtown Fuquay. 

 

The Town's annual Celebrate Fuquay-Varina festival will be held on Sat., June 7 from 10 am - 4 pm in Downtown Fuquay.  It's all free!

 

The festival features live entertainment from Lauren Light, Magician Michael Creech, Eric "E" Train Manning and the King BMX Bike Show.  Visitors will also enjoy two kid zones with inflatables and rides, arts and craft vendors from the Celebration of the Arts, classic cars and tours at our own Fuquay Museums Complex.  Check-out local entertainment and the En Plein Air Paint-off Auction at the Community Entertainment tent. 

 

Take a free shuttle to the event from the Fuquay-Varina Community Center.

 

The festival kicks off with a free concert featuring Spare Change on Thursday, June 5 from 7:30-10:00 pm in Downtown Varina on Broad Street.  Bring a lawn chair.

 

Motorists on both event days will need to plan for detours around the event areas.

 

The Town of Fuquay-Varina proudly sponsors and organizes the Celebrate Fuquay-Varina festival.  Event sponsors include Bethel Church, Bob Barker Company, Fidelity Bank, Kimley-Horn and Associates, WakeMed, and Withers & Ravenel.

Are you a Photographer?  Share Your Talent! 

  

We want your photos of life in Fuquay-Varina!  

Parks & Recreation is hosting a photo contest with the theme "Life in Fuquay-Varina."  Please submit photos no later than June 30 at 5 pm to  info@fvparks.org. 

 

There is no limit to the number of photos you can submit, but work must be original work solely owned by the entrant.  File format must be .jpg, .gif, or .jpeg and not exceed 5MB.  Subjects in photos must provide permission and must have been legally created.  Photos must be taken in Fuquay-Varina after January 1, 2013.  Age categories:  Elementary (ages 6-10), Middle (ages 11-13) High School (14-17) and 18+.  Winners will be announced and works displayed at the July 3 celebration!  For more information, call Megan Lanier  at 919-552-1432.

 

Speaking of photography, P&R is offering an Introduction to Digital SLR Photography class every Friday from July 11-August 15 from 6:45 to 8:45 pm.  The cost for the session is $72.  Register online

 
Teen Open House and Water Fun Day-Fri., June 13

Let's celebrate the end of school! The F-V Teen Council is inviting teens ages 13-18 to the field behind the Community Center on Friday, June 13 from 6:30-8:30 pm for a fun evening of water games, water slides and other wet n' wild fun. Pizza and other food will also be provided. Please wear appropriate swimsuits and bring your own towels.  

 
 
Student Art Show is a Winner!

Our recent student Art Show was a success!  P&R  held a Student Art Show on Sat., May 17th at the Community Center. Our art teacher Christina Myatt was very proud of all the great work her students have done in the last year. The students were thrilled to show off their art and proud parents and family attended.  

 

The Community Center offers a wide range of art classes for all ages!   Check out our art programs!

 
Tackle Football & Cheerleading Registration
Tackle football was very successful in 2013, the inaugural year of the program. 

Find more information and register for tackle football and cheerleading at www.fvparks.org or at the F-V Community Center located at 820 S. Main Street through July 18.  Both programs are for children ages 7-12.  

 

Registration for fall sports including baseball, flag football, soccer, softball, t-ball and volleyball begins July 1.

 

Have you Registered for Summer Camp?

Campers at the N.C. Zoo!

Parents, if you're looking for a fun, engaging learning experience for your K-5 kiddies this summer, look no further than Summer Camp hosted at the Community Center.  Camps with weekly themes and exciting field trips at a reasonable price are offered throughout the summer beginning June 16. Spots are limited, so preregistration is recommended, but not required. 

 

The cost is $100 per week for residents and $125 per week for non-residents.  Find information about camp. 

 

Update on Pitch, Hit and Run

 

Pitch, Hit and Run competitions consist of 4 levels of competition; Local, Sectional, Team Championships and National Finals. 

 

More than 50 kids showed up to compete at the Fuquay-Varina MLB PHR held on May 7 and the following competitors moved onto the sectional competition in Raleigh on May 17:

 

Regan Bernard, Addison Huml, Ryleigh Huml, Colby Humphries, Sydney Lemmers, Gary McCart III, Sarah Mosley, Whitt Newbauer, Hunter Nolan, Jake Pereira, McKenzie Pennington, Luke Philyaw, Peyton Sharp, and Kaitlyn Sowers.

 

At the Raleigh Sectional, Fuquay-Varina girl's softball representative Mckenzie Pennington won the overall sectional for 7-8 girls. In the 9-10 girls, Kaitlyn Sowers won second place in the overall category and Sydney Lemmers won third place overall.  Congratulations to these winners that will now move to the Team Championships.

Dog Days of Summer

 

 

Fuquay-Varina has gone to the dogs!  On Saturday, June 21 from 10 am - 2 pm, gather with other dog lovers and businesses that cater to the like at the Fuquay-Varina Downtown Dog Park located at 110 Woodland Drive.  Human and pooch refreshments will be served!

 

We will collect dog food, blankets, toys and treats for the Harnett County Animal Welfare Coalition, so feel free to bring an item or two. 

 

Previous gatherings at the Dog Park have created lots of friendships and camaraderie!  Join us for this fun event!

 

Wiggle Time

 

Join us for Wiggle-Time Wednesdays for ages 2.5 to 5 years old at South Park Playground at 10:00am. 

 

Meet other parents while the kids get all their wiggles out. Invite your friends and let's play together as a community!


Get Out and Walk!

 

It's summer!  

Time to get out and walk!

Hit the walking trails at Carroll Howard Johnson Environmental Education Park!  There are several trails to choose from with great shade cover to escape the heat of the summer and more than 1.65 miles of total walking trails. 

Seniors over 55 are invited to Nature Walks on the first Monday of every month including this upcoming June 2nd at 10:00am.

Outstanding Teen In Action
 

Emile Coleman, chairperson for the P&R Teen Advisory Council, has been awarded the first Ronald Reagan Student Leadership Award at Landry Academy which is given to students who show outstanding leadership, citizenship, drive and integrity.

 

Emilie's leadership on our Town's Teen Council is an example of the impact that students can have on our society, helping teens to be involved and make a difference in other's lives.

 

Join us in congratulating Emile on this honor and for her service to our Town!
