The Faculty Research Portal: A New Website Supporting Research
Our newest website, the Faculty Research Portal, is now live. It provides user-friendly information about grant submission and management, finding funding, limited-submission opportunities, research regulatory affairs, and related processes. A team in the Office of Research and Economic Development created the site, along with a new website to support the PREP, program for early career faculty. The Research Portal allows visitors to sign up for five different categories of funding opportunities. 
Rutgers Ranks #27 Globally for U.S. Patents
The NAI has released its worldwide Top100 list of universities ranked by U.S. utility patents awarded last year. Rutgers ranks #27, tied with a Big Ten peer, the University of Maryland. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported on the rankings, listing the research expenditures and describing some innovations developed at several area universities, including Rutgers. RAPSS Phase II Live August 8; Expansion Includes Industry Contracts, MTAs
Phase II of the Research Administration and Proposal Submission System (RAPSS) has been completed and will go live Monday, August 8. The user-friendly, state-of-the-art system will be mandatory for the submission, review, approval, and tracking of all funding proposals for sponsored research at Rutgers, including subawards and modifications. RAPSS also will support clinical-trial agreements, industry-sponsored research contracts, and research-related agreements, such as material transfer agreements and non-disclosure agreements. New Policy for Limited Submissions
The Office of Research and Economic Development has established new procedures to streamline the process of submitting grants for Limited Submission Opportunities (LSOs). These are funding opportunities for which Rutgers can only submit a designated number of applications. The restrictions range from a few submissions per campus to only one submission allowed universitywide. We have put together a comprehensive list of LSOs with internal deadlines on our new Faculty Research Portal website. In addition, we have created an LSO internal submission form that faculty should use to submit their internal application. Read more here.
New Tool for Finding Funding Now Available
The GrantForward Funding Opportunity Search and Recommendation service is now available to Rutgers faculty and staff. GrantForward, which is replacing Pivot, helps users find grant opportunities that suit their research needs with a database of grants from over 12,000 sponsors, which is updated daily. GrantForward also has a faculty profile feature that allows automated delivery of personalized information about funding opportunities. Are You Prepared for a Natural Disaster?
Tara Heagele, a doctoral student in the Rutgers School of Nursing and registered nurse, has extensive experience as emergency room technician and holds numerous certifications through the Federal Emergency Management Agency. She believes that most families, especially those with elderly or medically frail individuals, are completely unprepared for a disaster. Read more here.
Rutgers New Supercomputer Ranks #8 Among U.S. Academic Institutions
Rutgers new supercomputer, "Caliburn," was ranked #2 among Big Ten universities, #8 for U.S. academic institutions, #49 among global academic institutions, and #165 among all supercomputers worldwide by the updated Top500 list. The Top500 project provides a reliable basis for tracking trends in high-performance computing. Twice a year it assembles and releases a list of the sites operating the 500 most-powerful computer systems in the world. This is the first time Rutgers has appeared on the list. Read more here.
