Rutgers and BioNJ to Co-Sponsor October 29 Event for Entrepreneurs  
This half-day event for biopharma entrepreneurs is being sponsored by BioNJ and Rutgers. Decision makers from numerous organizations will discuss mission-driven investments in early stage companies, as well as funding opportunities from foundations and international groups. The keynote speaker will be Satish Jindal, Ph.D.CEO of Allied-Bristol Life Sciences, a joint venture between Allied Minds and Bristol Myers Squibb. Brian Leuthner, CEO of Edge Therapeutics, will speak about the non-traditional path his company took to raise money and how it got to its recent IPO. The event will be held October 29 on Livingston Campus in Piscataway (more here).
Continuous Manufacturing of Pharmaceuticals Research Nets Rutgers Center $6 Million in Funding from Janssen and Nearly $5 million from FDA
Janssen Pharmaceutical has furthered its strategic partnership with the Rutgers University School of Engineering by providing $6 million to expand research that will help pharmaceutical companies develop new ways to manufacture prescription medicines (more here). The center where that work is being done has just received $4.9 million in grants from the FDA to develop systems and regulations for continuous manufacturing, a major innovation in the industry (more here).

Promising New Technologies Available for Licensing  
Some promising Rutgers technologies recently became available for licensing. These include a highly sensitive and selective analytical method for correlating physiological parameters to motor function in patients with brain injury, a novel method for spreading thin, micron-scale films of liquid coatings on flexible substrates, and a novel personal electrostatic bioaerosol sampler that measures exposures to low microorganism concentrations. Rutgers Professor Emerita Recognized for Contribution to Field of DNA Repair 
Evelyn M. Witkin, professor emerita at Rutgers Waksman Institute of Microbiology, has been named one of the recipients of the 2015 Lasker Awards for her role in creating the field of DNA mutagenesis and DNA repair which has played an important role in the biomedical sciences and in clinical radiation therapy for cancer. The "BEAST" Comes Alive at Rutgers
Rutgers has launched the world's first outdoor laboratory to simulate the deterioration that occurs on bridges by inflicting and intensifying stresses from the environment and heavy traffic on sections of bridges in the lab. Called "the BEAST" (Bridge Evaluation and Structural Testing lab), it was unveiled Oct. 14 by the university's Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation (CAIT). More here.
