RAPSS Training Sessions Added; Initial Proposals Submitted Successfully
Training on the new Research Administration and Proposal Submission System (RAPSS) is being conducted on all campuses and additional sessions have been added to the training scheduleAll faculty members who plan to submit a new proposal to NIH must use RAPSS. Six faculty proposals were submitted successfully to NIH last month, which were the first using RAPSS. Read more here. 

Rutgers Gets Major Grant for Innovation Park

 

The effort to build an innovative technology park in New Jersey where academic and industry researchers can collaborate received a boost May 22 in the form of a $498,577 federal grant to Rutgers to continue planning the proposed Innovation Park@Rutgers. Christopher Molloy, senior VP for research and economic development, said his team will develop a unique and creative plan for the physical space and programs in the research park, which would be a first at Rutgers. IRB Training and Information Sessions      

Rutgers IRB will staff information tables June 9 in the Medical Education Building lobby and June 15 in the RWJUH Caf� where department liaisons will be available to answer questions about regulations, policies, procedures, types of review and risks, protected health information, and more. IRB staff also are available for walk-in meetings every Monday from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at the IRB office, 335 George St., third Floor. IRB training on "Top 10 Reasons for Delays in IRB Approval" will be held July 20. Read more here 

Funding for Medical Technologies    

The QED Program seeks medical technologies with high commercial potential.  These technologies may include therapeutics, medical devices, in vitro diagnostics, imaging agents, and biomaterials, or software-enabled tools such as bioinformatics, mobile applications, electronic records, and software-embedded devices. A panel of industry representatives makes recommendations for funding (up to $100,000 to be matched by institutional resources) to implement selected projects and encourage follow-on investment from the private sector. Soccer Star Tim Howard Coming to RU June 4 
North Brunswick native Tim Howard, who became a worldwide soccer star in the World Cup, is coming to Rutgers. For more than a decade, people with Tourette Syndrome have admired Howard for publicly sharing his personal experiences with the neurological disorder. He will talk about soccer and his life with Tourette Syndrome during an event at Rutgers June 4. Read more here.
Huron Consulting's Research Administration Assessment Now Online
Huron Consulting Group was engaged by Rutgers last year to conduct a "Research Administration Assessment." A 79-page summary of the assessment and its recommendations has been posted here on the new Excellence in Research Administration website.
Rutgers Receives Sizable Gift from Lexicon
Rutgers recently accepted a donation of more than 6,000 reagents and other compounds from Lexicon Pharmaceuticals Inc. for use by faculty researchers. The gift came through former Lexicon scientists David Augeri and David Kimball, research professors in the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy. Kimball is associate vice president of Rutgers Translational Sciences; Augeri is director of molecular design and synthesis. Read more here.
