Greetings!

A message from your SVDHA President:

Greetings from your component!

We hope you all had a wonderful summer (along with the comfortable, mild weather!) and are ready for CE courses as we approach September! You'll find our 2013-2014 schedule below and on our website. Over the years, we've had many comments requesting more weekend courses so you aren't rushing after work on Thursday evenings and those that don't live in the surrounding Sacramento area can easily attend. So, we decided to try a new 4 CE format and different locations. The topics are also great for the entire office - invite your DDS and staff! Please continue to provide feedback so that we can offer the best CE possible!

Another new idea we hope to implement this year are social events that we can come together, network and have some fun! How about some wine tasting or a 5K run/walk? Email us with your ideas!

Enjoy the rest of the summer and see you in Sept!

 Smiles,
 Kimi Kan, RDHAP, BSDH
 SVDHA President

On Sunday, July 21, 2013, dental hygienists from the Sacramento Valley Component traveled to Modesto to participate in the Modesto Service Center Health Fair sponsored by Tzu Chi Foundation, USA. Services provided included blood pressure, blood sugar test, medical, pediatric, dental hygiene, dental, and acupuncture.

The 6-hour event was a big success for the 67 professional and general volunteers that helped in providing services to those in need. 125 patients were seen with "total service" counts of 296. Medical doctors served 55 patients; 97 lab tests performed; pediatric doctors served 8 children; Acupuncturists served 40; and dental hygienists/dentists treated 89 patients.

True to their continued commitment to the underserved, Tzu Chi organized the event, rallied the volunteers, provided the liability insurance for the volunteer participants, as well as providing lunch for all who volunteers their services. Participants included those with no insurance or low income. Thank you so much to Tzu Chi for their generous and constant dedication to communities in need.

Several Sacramento Valley Component dental hygienists carpooled to Modesto to participate. Pictured below with a Tzu Chi volunteer (from left to right) are SVDHA hygienists--Olga Borodenko, Golshad Biniaz, Sarah Orbegoso Pea, and Amara Gibson. Thanks to each of you for giving of your time, expertise and kindness!!
