Happy Holidays!

Thanks goes out to TCU Place for hosting the Holiday Reception on December 12.  Everyone enjoyed themselves during this festive time to reconnect with friends and meet new business associates.

After all the good food and drink we have to wear those calories off......so keep moving.
Some outdoor ideas to keep active during the season may include skating at The Cameco Meewasin Skating Rink or the Clarence Downey Speed Skating Oval, cross country skiing along the riverbank, Kinsmen Park or one of the golf courses, what about tobogganing at Diefenbaker Park or Pest Hill.

Stay warm and have a safe Holiday Season!

Yours in tourism,

Top 5 reasons to Visit Saskatoon in 2014

We said it last year, and we'll say it again now. Saskatoon is the place to be.

Sports fans, music lovers, and foodies alike will want to experience all the Bridge City has to offer in 2014. Check out our events calendar for a full listing.

And without further ado, we present our Top 5 reasons to visit Saskatoon in 2014.

  1. Foodie paradise. Chef Dale MacKay returned home in 2013 and opened Ayden Kitchen and Bar, taking Saskatoon's food game to another level. Ayden is a fresh addition to a restaurant scene that boasts locally infused menu choices.  Saskatchewan is the bread basket of the world, and our city's establishments continue to take advantage of all our province has to offer.

  2. Saskatoon Blues Festival. Always a party! The Saskatoon Blues Festival presented by Cherry Insurance will open your eyes to the diversity and scope of that multi-faceted music genre known as The Blues. The Saskatoon Blues Festival features some of Canada's best musical talent, along with International artists. (February 24 - March 2)

  3. 2014 PotashCorp University Cup presented by Co-op. The University Cup is awarded annually to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport men's hockey champion. The tournament features the top six university teams from across the country. (March 20 - 23)

  4. Subaru Triathlon. In 2013, the Subaru Western Triathlon Series welcomed Saskatoon, and what a debut it was! Athletes were treated to an incredible point to point course that featured a swim in Pike Lake Provincial Park, a ride into Saskatoon on charming country roads and an exciting downtown run and finish in the beautiful river valley. The second annual Subaru Triathlon Saskatoon in 2014 promises to be just as thrilling as last year's competition. (June 29)

  5. PotashCorp Fringe Theatre Festival. Celebrating 25 years as Saskatoon's summer street festival, the 2014 Fringe Theatre Festival is a must-see. Enjoy independent theatre performances, buskers and street vendors. (July 31 - August 9)

See you in 2014!

Community and Marquee Annual Events

At Tourism Saskatchewan's HOST Conference in Regina on December 9 & 10, Saskatchewan's Event Hosting Strategy was released to the general public. Approved by the Government of Saskatchewan, the document was prepared with significant input from event stakeholders throughout the province and provides recommendations to support the long-term growth of this important and exciting component of Saskatchewan's tourism sector.

The strategy has been divided into four funding streams: Community Annual Events, Marquee Annual Events, National and International Events and Special Tourism Projects. Tourism Saskatchewan will accept applications to the Community Annual Events and Marquee Annual Events program streams three times a year. Application deadlines are March 31, August 31 and November 30 each year. Applications for the National and International Events and Special Tourism Projects program streams will be accepted throughout the calendar year. In many instances, these applications require additional levels of approval through Cabinet Decision Items which requires additional time.

Tourism Saskatoon would like to encourage members to visit www.industrymatters.com/event-hosting-program to familiarize yourself with the new program. Applications for each program stream can be found online. Tourism Saskatoon will be hosting  session in early 2014 for members to receive more information about the program and how it affects your next event.
