-NOTE FROM CORY-

I recently received an e mail from our teacher Victor,(he is in the blue shirt).  Once again, he thanked us for the purchase of the van this year.  What stood out were the WORDS he used when he talked about how it has made a difference.  He didn't say what a help it was to parents who drove their children to school, or what a help it was to parents who walked their children to school. What he did say was..."It has made such a difference for parents who GUARDED their children to school."

Victor's words brought to mind the day my own (then 7 year old son) came home from school and told me he was dumb and retarded.  A day each parent dreads as they reach for words to affirm their child's worth.  Targeting the vulnerable is not unique to one country but more prevalant and cruel in those where disability education is in its infancy.   A special thanks to our matching grant donor and all of you who met the match for the van purchase.  You have been a part of the movement forward and made it safe for these children to attend school!!

Maritza Turpin at Centro Joaquin for a visit

Santa Cruz resident and Peruvian American, Maritza Turpin, recently visited our project in Chincha Baja.  Maritza is pictured on the left.  She has been a big supporter of our work and we are so happy she was able to see what her help has made possible during her visit home. (center, Rosa Ortiz, local social worker, and right is Lisette, Physical Therapist)
