One Roof, One Voice
CFC's Bel Canto Choir will perform on Monday, March 24th in a collaborative performance at Heinz Hall which is aptly named "One Roof, One Voice". This concert has been organized by the Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestra (TRYPO) in celebration of its 40th Anniversary, and brings together the Duquesne Symphony Orchestra, Voices of Spirit, Pappert Chorales and Children's Festival Chorus in a performance of the ever-popular Carmina Burana by Carl Orff. Based on medieval poems written by Benedictine monks, Carmina Burana is arguably one of the most exciting choral works performed today due to its orchestration, extreme vocal demands and intense rhythms. The concert will feature individual performances by each ensemble, followed by what is sure to be an unforgettable performance of Carmina Burana. Admission is free with a suggested donation opportunity in the lobby. All donations will offset the costs of the performance. To reserve tickets in advance, please click here.

Introducing CFC Board Member David Vinski
David is currently Managing Director of the Pittsburgh Playhouse, a theatre laboratory facility for the Conservatory of Performing Arts of Point Park University where he is also an adjunct instructor in the Department of Dance. His contributions to the University have included stints as Lecturer in Dance, Production Manager of the American Dance Ensemble, Assistant Director of Community Classes, Assistant to the Director of Playhouse Jr., Theatre Manager and finally Managing Director. During this time, he has helped produce more than 400 productions viewed by more than a million patrons In addition to managing Playhouse operations, he contributes period and authentic dance elements to plays: Brecht on Brecht, Twelfth Night, You Can't Take it With You, Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Much Ado About Nothing, Philadelphia, Here I Come, The Robber Bridegroom, A History of the American Theater. David's interest in music began when we was six years old. The first grade teacher sent him and his friend Tom to meet with the Choir Director. "The Director must have been desperate for more voices because as soon as he discovered that we could match pitches we were hired. All the other guys became altar boys, but we joined the St Mary's Parish Men and Boys Choir...eight years of great singing, during which I learned to read and speak Latin perfectly... without understanding one word." During High School, choir was replaced by attending ethnic dance and music class at Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge #4, in Etna, PA. This initial interest in heritage led to a full scholarship with the Duquesne University Tamburitzans, a touring ensemble that presents songs and dances from a wide variety of south Slavic and central European cultures: Hungary, Poland, Russia, Romania, Greece, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, and others. Subsequently, David began teaching and choreographing for amateur ensembles and eventually discovered the International Folk Dance movement, where he was able to share dances with which he was familiar as well as expand his interest in other cultures. He is well known throughout the U.S. for his master classes and workshops in folk dance and has been on the staff of International Folk Dance Camp, Kentucky Dance Institute, Oglebey Dance Camp, Pinewoods Dance Camp and Mainwoods Dance Camp. David's interest in music, dance, folklore and storytelling lead to an involvement with Playhouse Jr. Children's Theater; as choreographer for A Christmas Carol, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Lonely Beast, The Indian Captive, Arthur and the Sword of Camelot, Cinderella; and as director of Stuart Little, Peter Rabbit and Me, The Velveteen Rabbit, Little Red Riding Hood, Charlotte's Web, Gulliver's Travels, Anne of Green Gables, Bambi, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, The Jungle Book, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, Five Canterbury Tales, and Arlecchino and the Italian Clowns. In addition to serving on the board of the CFC, David is a former board member and past President of the Friends of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. He has been guest choreographer for Dear Friends, Children's Festival Chorus, Singing Boys of Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh International Folk Theatre, Penn State International Ensemble and Pittsburgh Savoyards and was awarded a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts for his choreography "Appalachian Medley" which was developed for the Duquesne University Tamburitzans. For CFC, one of David's pieces was a suite of New England Songs and another was the choreography to the famous choral work arranged by Christine Jordanoff, "Appalachian Medley
