,
which was founded 25 years ago by renowned sculptor Lolo Sarnoff. Now it is a national front-runner in the field of creative aging. AFTA brings the arts to older adults who need it most, combating isolation, spreading joy and improving the quality of life of seniors. A faculty of trained and supported professional teaching artists conduct participatory workshops in painting, poetry, live instrumental music, dance, storytelling, inter-generational programs and more. Services primarily are offered free-of-charge in under-served or not-for-profit elder-care settings for groups of seniors who can no longer manage independently because of physical and cognitive impairments, or who are isolated and lonely. Science is now proving that frequent creative engagement in professional arts programs positively impacts health and quality of life in older adults. AFTA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit. Donations are tax-deductible and help to sustain high-quality arts programs that improve the lives of frail and vulnerable seniors. From the Senior Minister Search Committee: "TOGETHER AGAIN...TOGETHER AS ONE"
The outpouring of applause following the announcement of the nearly unanimous vote at last Sunday afternoon's Annual Meeting to call the Rev. Abhi Janamanchi to become our next senior minister called to mind the inspiring music composed by music director Dr. Henry Sgrecci. Via secret ballot, the count was 254 Yes, 1 No. It was a "together again...together as one" moment.
Cedar Lane is doubly blessed: 1) that Abhi was in search this year and, 2) that he chose us to be the congregation he wanted to serve. He will begin his ministry with us in August, 2013.
To each of you, we offer our heartfelt thanks. Over the past year your expectations, input, and support sustained and motivated us members of the Senior Minister Search Committee. It was a privilege to serve.
A request: please translate the sense of optimism and hope that you feel for the future of our congregation into a hearty pledge of support during the current Stewardship drive! Your pledge will help ensure the successful launch of the new ministry we are all excited about, as the new fiscal year gets underway July 1, 2013.
In faith and appreciation,
Carolyn Morrissey, Chair; John Gubbings, Bob Harrison, Dave Hawver, Emily Mellgren, Ann Meyer, and
Lyn Peters

Graduating Senior Service
Worship Associate: Genevieve Wall
Our wonderful senior class will take this opportunity to say good-bye to Cedar Lane and their faith community. Come and here us talk about what church has meant and what we will leave behind. This is also Susan Clark's swan song and Vanessa Steck's goodbye to the youth program. It will be a bittersweet service. You will not want to miss it.

We Care
We Careis a network for short-term pastoral needs, led by lay volunteers. Examples are food delivery, a ride to a doctor, or listening during a difficult time. Cedar Lane is organized by geographic neighborhoods, with chairpersons who coordinate support. Neighborhood numbers are listed on name tags, and shown on a map in the church office. Contact the church to determine chairs in your region.
Condolences are with Rich and Susan Clark (Neighborhood 23) with the death of Rich's mother, Carol Randle, on Saturday, April 20, after a struggle with cancer.
Update on Dan Wilson (N7): After a stay at Georgetown Hospital, Dan has been transferred to Shady Grove Rehabilitation Center in Rockville.
We celebrate with our Coming of Age youth, who led a worship service, centered on their personal
statements of faith, on April 20 and will lead Sunday worship this Sunday, April 28!
If you learn of a congregant in need, please do offer assistance, asking how you might support the situation. If the person would like church response, or you have a concern to share, please contact Heather Janules, Associate Minister and Minister for Pastoral Care. You may also contact Evan Keely or Karen Lee Scrivo, as all members of the ministerial team offer pastoral support to the congregation.
