Please visit the church calendar here.  If your group would like to schedule an event, please contact Sara Davidson at sdavidson@cedarlane.org.

We Care

We Care is a network for short-term pastoral needs, led by lay volunteers.  Examples are food delivery, a ride to a doctor, or listening during a difficult time. Cedar Lane is organized by geographic
neighborhoods, with chairpersons who coordinate support.  Neighborhood numbers are listed on name tags, and shown on a map in the church office.  Contact the church to determine chairs in your region.

Congratulations to our Partner Church Committee! Their good work, leading our efforts in maintaining a connection with the Unitarian Church of Dicsöszentmárton and raising funds so the church's young people can attend university (among other endeavors) will be recognized through an award by The American Hungarian Federation on April 19th: http://tinyurl.com/d7dp9h3 Hooray!

If you learn of a congregant in need, please do offer assistance, asking how you might support the situation.  If the person would like church response, or you have a concern to share, please contact Heather Janules, Associate Minister and Minister for Pastoral Care.  You may also contact Evan Keely or Karen Lee Scrivo, as all members of the ministerial team offer pastoral support to the congregation.

Home Energy Workshop with Interfaith Power & Light

Cedar Lane Unitarian Universalist Church in the library

Sunday, April 14, 1 - 2:30 p.m.

Are you a homeowner? Chances are that professional weatherization could save you 15-35% in home heating costs!

Homeowners from local congregations are joining together to care for creation by cutting energy waste in their homes. This is also a great way to make your home more comfortable and to save money on your energy bills! By joining together in this process, we can encourage each other to act out our values while also accessing deep discounts on energy efficiency upgrades and supporting local, socially conscious businesses.

In the workshop, we'll reflect on our own responsibility as Unitarian Universalists to consider the impact of our electricity use, as well as hear about a program from Groundswell, a local nonprofit that is working to help homeowners save energy and create good green jobs at the same time.

* A light lunch will be provided!

RSVPs appreciated! Email program@gwipl.org.

From the Music Director

Dr. Henry Sgrecci

This Sunday we sing about being together; working, playing, singing, worshiping, helping, being.  The Anthem, Draw the Circle Wide, is a contemporary Christian-based song whose strong message of togetherness and unity embraces all peoples; "Draw the circle, draw it wide.  No one stands alone, we'll stand side by side."  Will Walk Together is a delightfully upbeat anthem, recently published by Clif Hardin, Director of Music at River Road UUC.  This song employs a text created by Clif's wife, Jan Elicker; encouraging us walk, sing, and dance together as we move toward the day when freedom will ring true for all.

Special thanks to Kevin Miller and Tracy Esho for their pensive solos in Draw the Circle Wide.

Call your friends, get a baby sitter, gather up your neighbors, and reserve next Saturday night, April 13 to get a prime seat for Terry Burrell's one-woman show, 'An Evening with Ethel Waters."  Ms. Burrell will be accompanied at the piano by Daryl Waters who orchestrated the music for the hit Broadway show "Memphis."  It will be a night for Cedar Laners to remember.  Admission is free.  We'll see you there!

"Getting to Know You, Getting to Know All About You..."

Meet The Rev. Abhi Janamanchi

Our Candidate for Senior Minister

Next Sunday, April 14, the Rev. Abhi Janamanchi, begins his weeklong conversation with us by leading us in worship as the kick-off to Candidating Week.   The lyrics (above) from the enduring musical, "The King and I", capture what our week together is all about. [You may remember that  the next line is "getting to like you...getting to hope you like me."]

Throughout the following week, he and we will get to know more about each other as we contemplate what our partnership could be together.  Please understand that with 750+ members and over 30 committees and task forces, we simply could not set up one-on-one time with each group, though we have tried to arrange meetings with groups who have common ground.

In addition, we have scheduled separate opportunities for any of us to meet Rev. Janamanchi in more public  "meet and greet" / "Town Hall" gatherings  (to reserve child care, please email us at seniorsearch@cedarlane.org) as follows:

  • 7:30 - 9 p.m.     Monday, 4 /15: Social Justice Social Hour and Town Hall (lounge and chapel)
  • 2 - 4:30 p.m.    Thursday, 4/18: Afternoon Tea for Seniors and others (lounge)
  • 6:30 - 9 p.m.    Thursday , 4/18:  Religious Education
  • After Work Meet/Greet and Town Hall (lounge and chapel)
  • 6:30 - 9 p.m.    Friday, 4/19: Pizza Party and Town Hall (lounge and chapel)
  • 2 -  4:30 p.m.   Saturday, 4/20:  Ice Cream Social with families and others (Chalice House)

See you soon!
