| We Care
We Care is a network for short-term pastoral needs, led by lay volunteers. Examples are food delivery, a ride to a doctor, or listening during a difficult time. Cedar Lane is organized by geographic
neighborhoods, with chairpersons who coordinate support. Neighborhood numbers are listed on name tags, and shown on a map in the church office. Contact the church to determine chairs in your region.
Pastoral Visitors at Cedar Lane regularly visit with congregants who are homebound. Consider volunteering for this group, and receive assignments tailored to your availability. We hold Evelyn Myers (N25), Eleanor Melville (N1), Ruth Lane (N17), and many others in our hearts.
There is a Community Bulletin Board in the Lounge, directly across from the bookshelves, which has the weekly We Care list posted, and other news of the congregation.
You may fill out a request for pastoral care at the Joys and Concerns table with candles in the Sanctuary. Pastoral Visitors check these weekly on Sundays. You can also leave a message or email any day for a staff person, if needed.
Ongoing healing thoughts and prayers to:
Tracey Stein (N9), Mary Belle Feltenstein (N10), Norm Lauben (N29), Jim Ogle (N3), Lois Delaha (N10), Maury Merkin (N23), Terrie Nelson (N7), Penny Douglas (N8), Jeanne Kent (N17); Anne, Jim and Abby Turner (N31); and Frances Dearman (N8).
Visitors Welcome:
Wanda Van Goor (N2) is home, living with a health aide, and enjoying contact from Cedar Lane friends. Be in touch with her by phone to set up a visit.
Trudy Morse (N9) is in home hospice care. She enjoys company, coordinated by daughter Sarah, at morsekathan@gmail.com. Please go for short visits of about half an hour so as not to tire her. Our thoughts are with Mike, Mary, Adam, Lauren, and Erica Morse; and the extended family.
Hospitality Requested:
A celebration of life for Suzanne Hosford (N26) will be held at Cedar Lane on Saturday, February 16, at 4 p.m., officiated by Rev. Louise Green. You are invited to bring food for a light reception, coordinated by the Alliance. Thank you for this ministry to the family and friends of Sue.
If you learn of a congregant in need, please do offer assistance, asking how you might support the situation. If the person would like church response, or you have a concern to share, please contact Louise Green, lgreen@cedarlane.org, Sabbatical Minister for Pastoral Care. You may also contact Evan Keely or Karen Lee Scrivo, as all members of the ministerial team offer pastoral support to the congregation.

From the Administrator
Sara Deshler
As many have you may have heard, Pedro Diaz, our beloved custodian of 14 years is retiring on March 1st. Pedro has toiled ceaselessly on our behalf, being a dynamo in motion, working hard to keep our busy buildings sparkling clean and polished. He works tirelessly on set-ups, always helpful willing to help with whatever task needs to be undertaken. Our staff will miss him greatly, and we think members and friends of Cedar Lane will as well. If Cedar Laners wish to, we are accepting cards to be given to him, please send them to the church marked for Pedro. We will also accept checks on his behalf that will be combined into a larger check that will be given to him as a retirement gift. Checks can be made out to "CLUUC" and given to Marcia Montanio, our bookkeeper, at the church office or mailed to her by March 1.
Please write "gift to Pedro" in the memo line. You may also donate online; please choose the gift to Pedro Diaz option on the funds page of the e-giving link. Click here for that link. Much as we want to celebrate his service with us, he has declined a 'fiesta' or any recognition in a service. Instead, if you see him please take a moment to thank him; he will appreciate it.

From the Music Director
Dr. Henry Sgrecci
This Sunday we present songs of celebration, togetherness, and what can be. The Youth Handbell Choir uses both handbells and hand chimes to ring a very simple setting of the spiritual, All Night, All Day. Gwyneth Walker's setting of the Quaker hymn How Can I Keep from Singing has become a favorite of the CLUUC Choir. We sing it in loving memory of our recently departed friend and choir-mate, Barbara Greig. Barbara sang with enthusiasm and a smile and while she wanted no memorial service, she did ask that the Choir think of her when it sang a song that was festive and exuberant. We are thinking of you Barbara! Can you feel our enthusiasm?
Jim Papoulis is a composer who often works with children in workshop settings. He weaves melodies around words, thoughts, fears, and hopes shared by those children of various ages, cultures, and experiences. The Children's Choir sings When I Close My Eyes which encourages children to believe, to find hope, and to stand tall without fear. John Lennon incorporated imagery into a number of his songs. The Youth Choir sings a lovely four-part arrangement of Imagine, in which Lennon invites us to consider a world without heaven or hell, without greed or hunger, and without war provoking disputes. He realizes that many will think he is dreaming...of a time when we can all live as one.
Special thanks to members of the Children's Choir, Youth Choir, and Youth Handbell Choir, and accompanist, Susan Easterly, for contributing such meaningful music to this Sunday's service.
Only six more days until David Meredith and Friends sing for Concerts at Cedar Lane. Plan to be on hand at 7:30 p.m. next Saturday, February 23, to enjoy a delightful evening of folk, jazz and rock music from David and the band. Admission is free so bring your friends!

We are excited about "Sankofa Ghana: A Spiritual Journey Back Home." Our journey is for UUs who identify as African American/Afro-Caribbean/Black, to Ghana, the site of departure for many Africans headed to the United States. The deadline for deposits is 2/24 and is $200. If you are sincerely interested, we strongly encourage you to attend the Feb. 24 logistics meeting at 12:45 p.m. at All Souls Church.
